NCGR Talk - Duodecima and Antiscia

2 amazing Greek techniques revived by Jonathan Pearl.

Anti-skew and duo-what? Antiscia and duodecima (duads for short) were two favorite techniques of Firmicus Maternus, Sicilian lawyer and astrologer of the 4th century. I have found both methods to be simple to understand, easy to use and amazing in their results. Re-kindle your awe for astrology, refine your descriptions, and make your predictions much more accurate.

For examples we'll look at famous couples: Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Sinners and saints: Adolph Hitler, HH Dalai Lama; the chart of the
USA and more. Talk suitable for all interested in learning techniques of traditional astrology.

"Fantastic work!" says Dorothy J. Kovach. If this isn't enough to pique your interest, more on both techniques below.

Antiscia literally means "opposite shadows". Each degree in the zodiac sends a mirror point to another degree in the zodiac by folding over the Cancer/Capricorn axis. Cancer folds to Gemini, Leo folds to Taurus, Virgo to Aries, Libra to Pisces; Scorpio to Aquarius; and Sagittarius to Capricorn. These mirror points are essential for understanding the nature of any chart, and they also figure prominently in synastry. You will discover aspects you didn't know you had. And by checking standard transits to antiscia positions, events that were previously baffling will make sense.

Duodecima means twelve-fold division. Instead of 1 sign of 30 degrees, think of a sign as having twelve 2.5 degree sub-signs within it. How about a Sun in Cancer-Aquarius instead of just plain Cancer? Or Venus in Scorpio-Taurus? Double your star fun with the duads. This simple technique has many implications for all kinds of astrology.
