Chart Profile

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Read up on Mozart's birth chart here. Read up on a special summer of transits here. This week we'll look at significant events and qualities of major periods in his life.

For people born at night as Mozart was, the Moon starts the firdaria sequence. You'll see this in the box below the chart on the left at the link above. Moon is in Sagittarius in the 4th house with a tight aspect from Jupiter with good reception to boot. This gives the possibility of several residences and significant travel even at an early age. This was true - Mozart went on his first concert tour in 1762 and was on the road for over 3 years.

In 1782 Mozart married and had notable successes as a composer and musician in Vienna. What was happening astrologically? Jupiter-Venus! The combination of both benefics is often a highlight of life. Venus the goddess of love and beauty timed both for Mozart - he found a wife and had a major step up in recognition of his art. Since the major period ruler Jupiter is in Libra, a sign of Venus that involves both beauty and relationships, this was an especially positive time for his music and his love life.

The good times continued for a few more years. Wikipedia's biography says 1782-1785 was one of the most successful periods in Mozart's life. He gave a series of concerts playing his own compositions. In firdaria this was Jupiter-Venus, Jupiter-Mercury and part of Jupiter-Moon. Yet after 1785 things slowed down - and we see a Saturn sub-period from May 1786 to January 1788. Though his Saturn in Aquarius is also part of his compositional ability, Saturn periods weren't the best for Mozart's fame because it is combust - not seen - in his chart.

While Mozart's Mars in Cancer was part of his amazing genius (see part 1) it just could not produce the easy fame and successes that Jupiter in his 2nd house did in his twenties. His last three symphonies which I wrote about here were composed during the Mars-Mars period. If we know that the Mars is way out of bounds in Cancer, without knowing who this was we could say that they might have some extraordinary & unexpected development in career especially from 1/27/1788 to 1/26/1789 - and this is what happened.

Mozart died in 1791 during his Mars-Mercury period. Mercury is on the cusp of his 6th house of illness. This combination of a Mars in fall and Mercury bound towards illness was too much.

Upon first glance this technique almost seems too much for our modern mind to accept. How could a simple list of planets time his early moves, major successes, marriage, compositions of genius and even his death? Actually this is just the briefest beginning. Welcome to real astrology.
