Remedies of Venus

Pleasant smells and delights belong to Venus. I have found no better way to counter difficult energies and enhance positive ones than the use of these best quality essential oils of flowers, fruits, trees and roots. Many of these oils will instantly transport you to the realm of the goddesses and gods.

Use of these substances is not new to Western astrology. Marcilio Ficino, adviser to the Medicis, philosopher, musician, astrologer, and one of the leading figures of the Renaissance, advises the uses of various flowers, spices and plants throughout his writings. Similarly, Nicolas Culpepper, one of the great European herbalists, categorizes every plant with a connection to a planet. What I am doing with Flower*Pearls is reviving these traditions of connecting planets to plants.

Bergamot (Italy, organic) 1/2 oz, $12. Bergamot is a cheerful oil. Like all citrus, Bergamot is an oil of the Sun that lightens the darkness of winter. Bergamot is an especially powerful anti-depressant which is why this oil, not lemon or orange, flavors the famous Earl Grey tea. Cheer up your dark times with Bergamot.

Cedarwood (Himalayas, India) 1/2 oz, $5. Cedar has been used to build things that last. If you are bent out of shape or feeling weak, develop your durability with the Sun oil of Cedar.

Clary Sage (France) 1/2 oz, $10. Clary Sage is both calming, relaxing and euphoric. An oil of the Moon, use it when you need to nurture yourself. Gain inner wisdom with Clary Sage.

Clove Bud (Sri Lanka, organic) 1/2 oz, $10. Cloves adds spice, warmth and potency to any blend. Traditionally given to Jupiter, because of its heat this can be classified as Jupiter-Mars. Re-kindle your fires with Clove.

Davana (India) 1/2 oz, $20. Davana is sweet flower in the Artemisia family that blends well with earthier oils like Frankincense and other woods. In Sanskrit, Ananda means Bliss. Davana, oil of the Moon, is Ananda.

Frankincense (India, wild harvest) 1/2 oz, $10. Frankincense is the original incense. Its powers are profound. Let this Sun oil settle your soul and awaken you to Spirit.

Ginger (Sri Lanka, organic) 1/2 oz, $15. Ginger is used in cuisine because it tastes good, adds warmth and is a virtual panacea for the body. All roots carry the stabilizing element of Earth. Add life and heat with this oil given to both the Sun and Mars.

Grand fir (France, organic) 1/2 oz, $12. This magnificent tree powerfully reaches for the Sun. It is one of my favorite oils for Aquarius times and Aquarius people. Seek the light with Grand fir.

Lavender (Kashmir, India, organic) 1/2 oz, $10. Lavender is justly famous - one whiff is all you need for happiness. Think of a mountainside meadow filled with so much sweet luscious lavender that the bees are in a delirious frenzy. Sweeten your mind with this most wonderful oil of Mercury.

Nutmeg (Sri Lanka, organic) 1/2 oz, $12. Did you know that nutmeg contains the precursors to Ecstasy? It's true! No wonder why this spice is Tibetan medicine for the heart. Peace, happiness, warmth of heart - all in this oil of Jupiter.

Opoponax, or Myrrh (Ethiopia, wild harvest) 1/2 oz, $10. Myrrh has been treasured by the wise since ancient times. It is an oil of acceptance. Grace your life with this royal oil of the Sun.

Vetiver root (India, wild harvest) 1/2 oz, $12. Vetiver is protecting, grounding and sedating. This oil is a deep, rich balance to the Indian flowers and is a classic ingredient in many perfumes. Put yourself in a safe space to calm and renew with Vetiver, oil of the Moon.

Ylang Ylang Extra (Madagascar, organic) 1/2 oz, $10. Ylang Ylang means 'flower of flowers' and she is the sex goddess of all the flower oils. Entrancing, aphrodisiac, living for pleasure. In astrology terms: Venus in Taurus. If you want more pleasure in your life, this is easy: Ylang Ylang.

Extraordinary Oils

1 dram equals 1/8 oz. Because of the exceptional quality of these oils, use droplets at a time. 1 dram will last a long time even with regular use. Ruhs and absolutes are different types of extraction. Attar are scents worked into sandalwood oil.

Cinnamon Bark (Sri Lanka, organic extra fine). 1 dram, $12. Sweet, spicy, and who doesn't love cinnamon? An oil of the Sun and Mars, use this extra fine Cinnamon to invigorate yourself.

Vetiver Ruh (India) 1 dram, $10. If you like Vetiver, try this. Ruh is a different type of extraction. An even deeper, richer Vetiver. For people who like dark chocolate, strong coffee and Cabernet wine.

Saffron Attar (Kashmir, India) 1 dram, $25. Why is Saffron the world's most expensive spice? Not just because of the taste. Saffron is traditional medicine for the heart. Nicolas Culpepper, herbalist and astrologer of the 17th century, describes saffron as "exhilarating" and "endowed with great virtues, for it refreshes the spirits." Saffron water is used as purification in Tibetan Buddhist ceremonies. Saffron is a flower of the Sun in Leo. This will become especially important with Saturn's entry into Leo later in 2005. Experience purity of heart with Saffron Attar.

Jasmine Sambac Absolute (India) 1 dram, $30. Along with rose, jasmine is one of the world's great flowers and has been used in perfumes throughout history. Anyone who has been near this plant knows: jasmine grows! My favorite oil of Venus-Jupiter. Expand your love with Jasmine.

Damask Rose Attar (India). 1 dram, $30. Extra long 20 day distillation. A wearable Rose oil with depth and complexity. The richness of true love - Venus in Cancer.

Rose Ruh Otto (India, organic) 1 dram, $75. The most intoxicating love potion in existence. Roses have been symbolic of love around the world for centuries. This organic oil of Venus is the fastest way to the realm of the gods and goddesses I have ever experienced. Pure happiness and love. More expensive than gold and worth every penny. Still a bargain - if you were buying this downtown at a couture shop it would be $300 at least.

May you live with the Goddesses and Gods!
