Dear friends,
How was last week? With Mercury retrograde, we are primed for review. Several
people in my circle had career inspirations and positive soul communications
during last week's alignment of Mercury, Venus and Sun. Some of these plans may
take time to unfold (Mercury in reverse until April 12), but don't drop them; a
week where our love (Venus) is in the heart of life (Sun) reminds us how to
follow our bliss.
This week will be all too easy to fall into the trap of fear. Venus squares
Saturn on Friday, the very day of the solar eclipse; and Sun squares Saturn just
two days later. Squares to Saturn are known for testing, and here both our love
and very life feel threatened. We are anxious about our love and being loved; we
may fear for the health and life of ourselves and loved ones.
What's the respite? With Mercury still retrograde putting projects on hold; the
squares of Venus and Sun to Saturn reducing our pleasure and vitality; and 4th
quarter Moon diminishing our yin-nourishment energy, take time to chill. With
Mars applying to Neptune, movies & music are just what the astro-doctor
prescribes.
How lovely and well-timed that a 6 hour movie in 2 parts is getting rave
reviews.

With Mercury backing into the origin point of the zodiac, we return to our
intellectual roots. The foundation of astrology is the connection of the planets
to time. What is the bedrock of this system? Is it the Moon? Birth charts?
Transits?
The very beginning of the connection of time to planets is the names of the days
of the week. Each day is named after a God or Goddess in the sky: Sun's day,
Moon's day, Mars' day, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn's Day. We no longer
recognize the Norse language Tuer for Mars, or Woden for Mercury; some of us
might get Thor for Jupiter and Freya for Venus. This seemingly simple connection
of planets to days is very profound.
How many people, even those knowing nothing of astrology, do just what they want
on Sundays and nothing else? Or feel moody on Mondays? Tuesdays at the gym are
usually crowded. Wednesday is 'hump' day, coming right in the middle. Many feel
expansive on Thursday. And most I know have double the pleasure & half the work
thoughts on Friday. Saturn's day is free time for most, but many take themselves
to task.
Hmm, maybe we're on to something. This is astrological time. The days are named
after planets, and the nights too. Within each day and night are 12 hours, and
each hour gets a planet. In this sacred time system, an hour is sunrise to
sunset divided by 12, and then sunset to sunrise divided by 12. No daylight
saving, body clock confusing, mussing with the system here!
If you are curious about astrology and have learned to watch the planets through
signs and their aspects, this is the next step: watch the planetary hours. I
have kept my eye on these for years and they truly work. But don't just take my
word for it - during the squares of Venus and Sun to Saturn, test this out.
Free hours software is available here:

Mercury is retrograde, yes; I wouldn't recommend a system overhaul but
installation of a teensy 2 MG file shouldn't tempt fate.
In my view as a professional astrologer, this is the very best way to get the
meanings of the planets. Watch their unfolding through time - not by pondering
the birth chart but every day of life. What does Moon day Moon hour feel like to
you? Mars hours can produce anger or frustration but also delight in exercise,
drive and the heat of passion. If you follow the hours for a week, you will soon
see the positivity of Jupiter hours and the weight of Saturn hours. Then you can
get a sense of the combinations: Venus day Jupiter hour are some of the most up
times of the week; and Sun day Moon hours the most intimate.
Next week: the planetary nights, and what to do with this information.

All times PDT. See below for comments on other visible planets. The Sun and Moon
together set the tone of the time. The Sun provides our orientation for the
month; Moon signs and aspects influence the energy of the day, and tells us how
we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for
several days (sometimes weeks) before and even after the aspect depending on the
nature of the planets involved.
Sun * in Aries. New beginnings! Sun into the first sign of the zodiac means new
life. We pursue our power and strength. The Sun is exalted in Aries, but Aries
remains a sign of Mars.
Moon * days 26 - 3 (new Moon is day 1). In the low energy 4th quarter Moon - New
Moon in Aries on Friday.
Monday 4/4 * Moon in Aquarius. With Moon in Aquarius we like to learn. With
Mercury retrograde, read something from the past.
Tuesday 4/5 * Moon in Pisces, Venus sextile Neptune. Our desires link up with
movies, music and alcohol. With Moon in Pisces and the low energy of the week,
time for a kick-back movie fest.
Wednesday 4/6 * Moon in Pisces, Sun sextile Neptune. The last day in the Moon's
zodiac cycle - rest and let go. With Sun grooving on Neptune this week, music
and movies are the way.
Thursday 4/7 * Dark of the Moon in Aries, Mars trine Jupiter. Aries kick starts
the system, but with dark of the Moon and the transits of the week we'll still
be on low burn. A trine of Mars to Jupiter increases our physical exertion
energy. If romance is leaving you cold, work out those frustrations instead.
Friday 4/8 * Solar Eclipse New Moon at 1:30 pm, Venus square Saturn. We feel the
Venus square Saturn more Thursday night; Friday we have the cosmic line-up of
the Sun, Moon and Earth that produces an eclipse. The best use of eclipse energy
is alignment - very good for yoga or meditation since the energy channels are in
natural balance.
Saturday 4/9 * Moon in Taurus. Moon in Taurus demands pleasure and security, but
with Sun applying to square Saturn we feel threatened more than safe. Relax
future fears, and find aid in the natural world.
My favorite Sun-Saturn oil that I use during Saturn and even Pluto transits is
Oponomax, or Myrrh. Myrrh is a tree resin like frankincense that has a medicinal
and life-preserving quality that reminds us to maintain our life force in times
of threat or darkness. Available at Flower*Pearls - website price list coming
soon.
Sunday 4/10 * Moon in Taurus, Sun square Saturn. We'll awake to the relief that
the square has passed - things are looking up. Moon squares Mars midday and then
Neptune in the late afternoon: a long hike and then a beer; or work out, then a
movie; or exert yourself any way that gives pleasure, followed by fantasy of
choice. After the stress of the week, we'll need it!
Have a stellar week!
Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl
