Star Pearls 4*18*05

Dear friends,

First some special announcements, and then tales of the sky.

I'm giving two talks on traditional astrology!

The Traditional Techniques of Duodecima and Antiscia

Duodecima and Antiscia are two techniques of traditional astrology that not many people know about. I have found them to be both fascinating and quite useful.

These talks are by teleconference so anyone can attend. They are appropriate for any astrologer or student of astrology interested in improving their understanding. The talks are through the Association of Young Astrologers, but there is no age limit to attendees. Thanks to everyone involved in making them happen. Both talks will be very interesting, I promise!

Services

My Flower*Pearls price list is now posted online. If you'd like something not listed, please let me know.

New service #1 - One topic reading, 30 minutes, telephone only, $50. A few weeks ago someone called me and said: are you free this afternoon for a reading? A full reading lasts more than an hour and involves about an hour of preparation. Then after going deeply into someone's entire life I usually need some down time. So to me a reading is a 3 hour affair that needs to be booked in advance. But some people don't have time for this! Something happens and they want to know today. What's going on with my job right now? What's happening with this person in my life? If you are one of those people who don't like to wait, and you really have one important topic in mind, this is a good option. Note: if you have a yes / no question, the technique of horary is best. This one topic reading views your birth chart.

New service #2 - Update reading for previous clients, 30 minutes, telephone only, $50. With the full hour we can really go into detail month by month, but 30 minutes is definitely enough to cover the themes of the year. I really love to see my repeat clients who have come back for a couple years now, and wanted to make this more of a possibility for people facing tougher economic times.

On to the regular column.

On the island of Yerba Buena, where all the residents know their astrology, their is a strict rule to which all are happy to comply: lights out after dark! Only with a dark Earth can they see the light of the planets and stars. Of course they happily use full spectrum light in their offices during the day - we're not talking Luddites here - but clearly seeing the sky at night is more precious than any other activity that false light would allow.

So to everyone on Yerba Buena, it was obvious that these days the Moon was moving more and more. Yes, it's true. Just like the Sun peaks high in the sky at summer solstice and barely gets off the ground at winter solstice, the Moon has its own rhythm of greater and lesser movement. But the time scale is different - not 1 year, but about 19. This is called the declination cycle of the Moon. Some of the markers at Stonehenge clearly show this cycle. [1]

Declination is an ancient part of skywatching that not many contemporary astrologers include in their practice. Why? Because all the false light on the mainland compels them to stare at computer screens instead of looking up at the sky. We can see the Moon, but we can't see it against the backdrop of fixed stars. If we could, we'd notice that it is moving more in the sky than in previous years. The Moon's declination cycle peaks in 2006. Previous peaks in this century were:

* 1987 - the year of biggest single day stock market crash in history

* 1969 - a year of cultural and political turmoil round the globe

* 1950 - Korean war, McCarthyism and the H-bomb

* 1931-32 - pit of the Great Depression

* 1913 - start of WWI

Yikes, didn't mean to turn this into a gloom and doom column. By this measure alone, 2006 will be a humdinger of a year. There are other things going on too, but we'll save them for a future column. The Moon is emotions. When the Moon moves much more than usual, we have an extreme excess of emotions. Lunacy - like stock markets crashing, assassinations, communist hysteria, governments plotting to blow up the earth, starting wars and whatnot.

Even if we're not involved in such dire activities, we may still feel a little loony when the Moon is in late Gemini and into early Cancer, and again but to a slightly lesser extent in late Sagittarius and early Capricorn. All these times are when the declination is at its peak. This is not the case each and every year, but it is with the years around the peak of the cycle.

A friend and I both noticed a curious thing last week. We usually relish the Moon in Cancer - time for nesting, good food, baths, all kinds of soul nourishment. But over the last several months these time tested strategies were no longer working as they once did. Instead of feeling comfortable, there was just more unsettling emotions. Last week it was Wednesday (while in Gemini, when both intellect and emotions are in play) and Thursday (Moon in Cancer, ocean of emotion.) Anyone else notice this?

If you did, an astrology calendar and this column will be extra helpful to you over the coming 2 years. We know these waves of emotion will continue to get stronger and higher until the peak in 2006. 2007 will have about the same movement as this year, but like the tension passes after the full Moon, at least we'll be on the way down.

[1] Special thanks to the fantastic Linea Van Horn for covering this topic in a lecture back in 2002.

All times PDT. See below for comments on other visible planets. The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun provides our orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects influence the energy of the day, and tells us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for several days (sometimes weeks) before and even after the aspect depending on the nature of the planets involved.

Sun * in Aries, entering Taurus. Our rush to new adventure slows. We want to make sure we're safe. And with this slowing down, we focus more on pleasures than conquests. Celebrate the earth - Earth Day is *the* Taurus holiday!

Moon * days 11 - 17 (new Moon is day 1). Moon building towards full in Scorpio on Sunday.

Monday 4/18 * Moon in Leo. We had a party weekend and charged morning, but this Leo Moon still has life left as it moves towards it's most powerful yang moment in the wee hours on Tuesday. We are going after what we want with oomph. Modern astrology knows Leo for being regal yet sometimes prideful. This is definitely true. But traditional astrology knows Leo (along with horse half of Sagittarius) to be both bestial (like a beast) and feral (wild). Leo weekends bring out the wild beast in us!

Tuesday 4/19 * Moon into Virgo, Sun into Taurus. Both lights go from Fire to Earth. Sun into Taurus means our orientation changes to pleasure and safety. Body wisdom and sensation are our guides. Moon in Virgo emphasizes accomplishment, so for these few days we'll be focusing more on the financial safety side of Taurus.

Wednesday 4/20 * Moon in Virgo. If the astrologers were picking Earth Day, this would be the day. How do we keep our Earth clean? As Americans we are using up a much higher percentage of the world's resources. Ponder these issues and choose some way of taking action with the Moon in to-do Virgo! A Moon aspect to Saturn in the evening highlights these themes of consequences and long term strategies.

Thursday 4/21 * Moon in Virgo, into Libra in the afternoon. After two days of keeping busy, now we make time for the pleasure side of Taurus. Both lights are in signs of loving Venus. Pleasures of the body (Taurus) come best with harmony in relationships (Libra).

Friday 4/22 * Moon in Libra. Friday is Venus day, and with the Moon in one of her signs, this is a day for special romance. We are feeling fantastic in the morning - positive and optimistic at a soul level. Music and other dreamy pleasures are easy in the evening. Men are charged up in a good way.

Saturday 4/23 * Moon in Libra, into Scorpio in the evening, Venus sextile Uranus. We thankfully sleep through the Moon square Saturn and have lots of energy for whatever we are doing in the morning. Venus dancing with Uranus means fun with technology and computers, joy in sci-fi and future stuff, and perhaps the women in our lives will take a pleasant yet unexpected turn.

Sunday 4/24 * Full Moon eclipse in Scorpio. The Full Moon is in the wee hours, so the energy will peak Saturday night. We have great passion with the Moon in Scorpio, but also the power to see through emotional resistance and get to the heart of the matter. Buddha was born on this Full Moon. With the Earth blocking the light of the Moon, we invoke the healing powers of Mother Nature to resolve our emotional harangues.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Planet aspects influence the energies for several days (sometimes weeks) before and even after the aspect depending on the nature of the planets involved.

Sun * in Aries. New beginnings! Sun into the first sign of the zodiac means new life. We pursue our power and strength. The Sun is exalted in Aries, but Aries remains a sign of Mars.

Moon * days 4 - 10 (new Moon is day 1). Moon and our energy now growing.

Monday 4/11 * Moon in Gemini, Venus trine Pluto. Communicate with old friends, and with Venus trine Pluto, perhaps old lovers.

Tuesday 4/12 * Moon in Gemini, Mercury direct! Any communications or transactions that were on hold start moving ahead. Be alert for changes of plan, but these will be less disruptive than the first turn retrograde.

Wednesday 4/13 * Moon in Gemini, Mars conjunct Neptune. Today and this week we live the way of the mythic hero - inspire yourself by poetry, tales of old, or even Lord of the Rings.

Thursday 4/14 * Moon in Cancer. Moon in Cancer turns our attention to nourishment. With Mars conjunct Neptune, we might be drinking more than usual! Enjoy your good stuff this week.

Friday 4/15 * Moon in Cancer, Venus into Taurus. The two feminine planets come home to their favorite signs. This is like being on a business trip, going from city to city, and then coming home to your favorite bed, the one you know, and dining out at your very favorite restaurant. But the deeper satisfaction comes tomorrow - the Moon Saturn conjunction - that heavy time of the month for us all - happens this evening.

Saturday 4/16 * First Quarter Moon in Cancer, into Leo in afternoon. In our rush of adventure that is new Moon in Aries, how are we feeling, and how are we nourishing ourselves? This is the challenge the first quarter Moon in Cancer gives - "One cannot live well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well." - Virginia Woolf. With Sun in Aries and Moon into Leo, party tonight!

Sunday 4/17 * Moon in Leo. Today is the glory of the Sun - The Sun exalted in Aries and the Moon in the sign of the Sun. Catch some golden rays!

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl
