Star Pearls 7*4*05

Dear friends,

In Cancer season we tend to our nest. Let's arrange the space just so, this way suits me. The pea-leaf green works but not the pine. The bed in this corner, angled that way, with 300 thread sheets. And what are we eating today?

Cancer is about nourishment. First we set our space. How do we protect ourselves against the often difficult world? Not everyone gets access to the inner sanctum. How do we make our space warm, cozy, inviting, someplace we ourselves like to be?

Once we have this space we then tend to our needs. What feeds our body and soul? Cancer knows a meal is never just fuel for the next deadline. The best quote on the matter is from Virginia Woolf: "One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." If you have seen this before it was probably on a restaurant receipt to help justify a $100 bill. Unless we are of upper echelons who can afford such service every night, the real message here is to learn to cook. This is a lifelong art of energy and alchemy, the practice of attunement to body and season, finding the plumb line of pleasure and health, together.

Luckily here in Northern California this is not so hard to do. Fresh greens & local olive oil. Steak from grass fed cows, organic green beans, potatoes, herbs. Wine or beer, both world renown. The nuance is in the selection, the preparation and timing.

Beware your reaction to Cancer concerns. Does a part of you scoff? How domestic. Home, beds, cooking, sounds pretty 50s. Are you falling into the patriarchal trap that our outer accomplishments are far greater than tending to our inner needs could ever be? Are you valuing the Sun - the honors, the stuff of doing - and stepping on the Moon, the lady of the night, the inner light, all what we take in?

Though we aspire to the light, we cannot look at the Sun directly. The Moon allows us a way to the light. The Moon in the chart shows our sensitivities - what we need, our inner rhythm, what makes us tick. And so the Moon relates to Cancer just as Sun goes with Leo. This is the royal pair of the sky and their domains. As each sign builds upon the next, we cannot have the glories of Leo unless we tend to our Cancer needs.

This week with Sun in Cancer and Venus and Mercury together in Leo, we have both. Our orientation is still on feelings and needs; but we have desires and mindset going to glories, good times, and all ways we are seen.

Star*Watch
All times PDT. See below for comments on other visible planets. The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun is our outer orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects are the energetic pulls of the day, and tell us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for several days (sometimes weeks) before and even after the aspect depending on the planets involved.

Sun * in Cancer. The light is within. We are feeling and taking care of our insides. How to take care of ourselves and others? We eat well among our tribe of friends and true family. The trap of Cancer - crab claws that just won't let go.

Moon * days 29 - 5 (new Moon is day 1). New Moon in Cancer on Wednesday.

Monday 7/4 * Moon in Gemini. The morning is not quite as relaxed as we'd like a holiday Monday, and though our emotions continue to push during the day the intensity gives way to pleasure in talking, reading and writing. Dreams tonight inspire art.

Tuesday 7/5 * Dark of the Moon in Cancer, Mercury sextile Jupiter. The last day of the Moon cycle is letting go time, and with the lights in the sign of holding on we are all too aware of the ways we need to let go. We let go of judgments around not letting go, we let go of ways we have kept ourselves from letting go. Helpful aids: baths and the fluidity of water, herbs from the natural world. In spite of lunar darkness we have optimistic mind.

Wednesday 7/6 * New Moon in Cancer, Venus sextile Jupiter. A day of glorious rebirth. The traditional concept of reception helps us here. A sextile is usually thought of as cooperation. But the reception - Venus in Leo ~loves~ Jupiter in Libra, since Jupiter is in Venus' home turf - makes this more like a trine. English translation: Venus Jupiter days are some of the all round most auspicious days of the year. After your birthday, one of the best days of the year for making wishes!

Thursday 7/7 * Moon in Cancer, then into Leo midday. The Moon meets Saturn in the morning. We will feel our fears and pains, but soon we are much happier. Note the change from inner sensitivity to the Lion's roar, from shyness to confidence, from how am I feeling to what am I doing. The Sun now in Cancer will enter Leo in a few weeks and echo this paradigm. From our wishes of yesterday, now we get serious. Want to travel to Europe? Great idea but we let's set up our saving plan. And today, even throughout this week and into the weekend, we *need* physical exertion to deal with the double Mars going on. We have extra confidence and drive but prone to hostility even with the Sun in the sign of nice.

Friday 7/8 * Moon in Leo. A day for play. If you aren't having fun at work, meet your lover in the park for lunch. Or scoot out of their all together. Some days, the stars decree, are for fun. Pleasures continue into the wee hours. Mercury and Venus together mean art - tonight is fancy dining, high fashion, music that puts on a show. Watch any aggressions in the afternoon - exercise is best!

Saturday 7/9 * Moon in Leo, Mercury conjunct Venus in the wee hours. The gold isn't as dazzling as last night but we still enjoy it. Today and Sunday we nourish ourselves with friends and learning.

Sunday 7/10 * Moon in Virgo. Make sure to have your fun Friday and Saturday - today is for detox, for gardening, for not just lounging in the park but reading a book that's been sitting on your shelf. Bonus points for self-help.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * into Leo. Our minds are bold and confident, and we want some of the spotlight with our speech. We think of elegance and luxury. The best of Leo: it's a grand life! The trap - it's all about me. Mercury in Leo through September 4. Mercury retrogrades July 22 and turns direct on August 15.

Venus * into Leo. Our love wants to be put on pedestal and adored. We'll demand attention - bright colors, bold jewelry, big hair, gold. Venus in Leo through July 22.

Mars * in Aries. The hero on a new quest, the confident one who boldly acts, the warrior with raw physical power. Mars in Aries is always strong, but now with the North node is extra pumped. Mars in Aries through July 27.

Jupiter * in Libra. Blessings in love and partnerships! Learning in realms of art and beauty. Jupiter now direct, so abundance and blessings are coming our way! Jupiter in Libra through October 2005.

Saturn * in Cancer. Structure and responsibility in the domain of our innermost feeling life and among our families and tribes. A positive vision of this energy: the sensitive yet authoritative parent. Saturn direct in Cancer through July 2005.
