Star Pearls 7*11*05

Dear friends,

Last week London saw the terrible effects of the meet-up with Mars, the god of war, and the head of the dragon. What is this dragon? An image of points on the Moon's path that mark the cycle of becoming and dissolution. The North Node, the head, has a seeking, increasing, even devouring quality that amps up whatever planet comes near. Reverse for the South Node, a point of letting go, dissolving, fading out. The nodes are complex, some of the trickiest points in astrological interpretation. They are known to be shadowy, and not even listed in many astrology calendars. But they should be, and I have added them to my own Wandering Stars section below. Indian astrology considers them as important as planets, and one example why is now burned into our minds. The aspect of Mars joining the North Node was exact on Friday 7/8 and to me its intensity, not just in London but the energies everywhere, makes Mars square Sun, exact tomorrow afternoon, feel like teenage games.

Speaking of same, Mars joining the North node in Aries had another interesting affect in the UK. As far back as Ptolemy's time, that's 2nd century AD, England was known as an Aries land. Mars, besides his role in spilling blood, loves contests, muscles, testosterone and sports. And last week we learned the UK will host the Olympics!

Which brings us to a very interesting remark of how astrology works. Did Mars cause the bombing? No, of course not, just like it didn't cause the Olympics. But this aspect did set the energy. With Mars conjunct the North Node in Aries we had to operate with that wavelength. If we accept centuries old correspondences of places to signs, we'll know where in the world to look for a strong show. As individuals, there are a variety of manifestations depending on our own state of being. If we are an athlete, Mars conjunct the North node will mean vigorous workouts. If we are a business person, the same aspect means a keener striving for success. If we are angry, we get an extra dose of that too. If we are a terrorist, then Mars with the North Node will naturally time an explosion. But if we are more enlightened, perhaps the same Mars conjunct the North Node will increase the power of yogic practices.

So we have a code for all astrology aspects: YMMV, your mileage may vary. The results depend on who you are and where you're at. But there is no denying the power of the astrology, the car we're driving, to set the direction of where we're going.

Our destination is taking a significant turn this week. Saturn, furthest out of the visible planets - representing limits, endings, old things, structures, weight, waits, hard work, responsibility, suffering, and if we pay attention, wisdom - is shifting sign from Cancer to Leo. This is significant - Saturn stays in a sign for more than two years. A change fundamentally alters the landscape of life. Wherever we have Cancer, and Capricorn too with the opposition, will heave a sigh of relief. But Leo and Aquarius are now contending with what is difficult and yet what is wise. What does this mean for you? YMMV. It depends on what Cancer and Leo (and Capricorn and Aquarius) are doing in your chart.

In general, Saturn into Cancer made us feel we had to deal with some inner pain. Cancer is the realm of feelings, and Saturn in this sensitive place is like someone throwing a big rock in a small pond. We adjusted to the weight, pretended not to notice for a while, and let our life try to flow around the obstacle as best we could. Hopefully the water slowly softened the rough edges of the rock, and over these two years we learned something about dealing with our difficulties.

Saturn into Leo will free up our insides but now the delays, the hard work, the sense of limitation will be found in our external occupations. Every time we want to shine, we'll have to contend with Saturn (and all meanings above) in one way or another. Even our play will turn a darker shade. This from colleague Bill Street: Saturn in Leo in the 40s produced film noir [1]. Last time Saturn changed the Lion's proud roar into a rebellious scream was September 1975 to January 1976 and again June 1976 to July 1978 - the time of punk. In politics, Jimmy Carter ran as the outsider and won, and yet suffered the consequences of the same energy that brought him victory. Leaders will be cut down, and bosses challenged. Revolt will be in. This is not all bad. As 1976 was the year upstart California wine stunned the grape world by winning in blind tests over long established France and Italy, Saturn into Leo ushers possibilities of shaking up the status quo.

Star*Watch
All times PDT. See below for comments on other visible planets. The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun is our outer orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects are the energetic pulls of the day, and tell us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for several days (sometimes weeks) before and even after the aspect depending on the planets involved.

Sun * in Cancer. The light is within. We are feeling and taking care of our insides. How to take care of ourselves and others? We eat well among our tribe of friends and true family. The trap of Cancer - crab claws that just won't let go.

Moon * days 6 - 12 (new Moon is day 1). Growing Moon meets the challenge of nourishing ourselves versus maintaining relationships on Thursday morning.

Monday 7/11 * Moon in Virgo, Venus opposite Neptune. A classical musician plays her scales. The movie director spends night after night on the editing board. Likewise we have orientation towards art and the fine art of detail today.

Tuesday 7/12 * Moon in Virgo, into Libra in the afternoon, Sun square Mars. We like competition. Even avid non athletes may be taking an interest in sports this week, even if that means TV baseball and beer. With Sun in Cancer and Mars in Aries, we like the fight, but the fight doesn't like us. The rugby player who spends most of his free time in the garden is getting bruised up more than he'd like. But still he loves the rough game!

Wednesday 7/13 * Moon in Libra, Mercury opposite Neptune. We're at our idealistic best this morning. Our desires and minds both oppose the planet of myth, art and alcohol this week. We'll be fond of all, yet like the Sirens song may know that what attracts us this week is not all it appears. The wisdom of astrology: know that Neptune makes life like a movie. Enjoy the show but don't expect it to last forever.

Thursday 7/14 * First Quarter Moon in Libra, into Scorpio late. How to take care of ourselves while maintaining our relationships? This is the challenge of the week and especially this morning. Once we settle this, it's passion in relationships until the evening when things cool off.

Friday 7/15 * Moon in Scorpio, Mars trine Pluto. The Aries side of Mars is easy to see - sports, blood, courage, drive. Today we have the more hidden yet just as strong Scorpio side - power in relationships, passion, sex, obsessions.

Saturday 7/16 * Moon in Scorpio, Saturn into Leo, Venus trine Pluto. We awake and know the ground of life has changed. The Sun is not shining as it did yesterday - a shade darker. How to deal? For tonight we'll be comfortable acting on the deepest and rawest of our desires. For the rest of Saturn in Leo, read next week for ideas.

Sunday 7/17 * Moon in Sagittarius, Venus trine Mars. A lover's weekend. If you can't getaway with Moon in Sag, then take your partner where they really want to go. Harmony between all Venus goddesses and Mars heroes.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * in Leo. Our minds are bold and confident, and we want some of the spotlight with our speech. We think of elegance and luxury. The best of Leo: it's a grand life! The trap - it's all about me. Mercury in Leo through September 4. Mercury retrogrades July 22 and turns direct on August 15.

Venus * into Leo. Our love wants to be put on pedestal and adored. We'll demand attention - bright colors, bold jewelry, big hair, gold. Venus in Leo through July 22.

Mars * in Aries. The hero on a new quest, the confident one who boldly acts, the warrior with raw physical power. Mars in Aries is always strong, but now with the North node is extra pumped. Mars in Aries through July 27.

Jupiter * in Libra. Blessings in love and partnerships! Learning in realms of art and beauty. Jupiter now direct, so abundance and blessings are coming our way! Jupiter in Libra through October 2005.

Saturn * in Cancer. Structure and responsibility in the domain of our innermost feeling life and among our families and tribes. A positive vision of this energy: the sensitive yet authoritative parent. Saturn direct in Cancer through July 2005.

Dragon's Head * in Aries. We gain by new adventures and physical vigor, yet are more prone to hostility.

Dragon's Tail * In Libra. We fear loss in relationships. Art explores the unseen.
