Star Pearls 8*08*05

Dear friends,

Even casual astro fans know about the Saturn return. This happens for everyone around age 29, and the restrictions and structures of Saturn - related to health, career, relationships or home - often intensify or change form. Just like the Solar return near our birthday makes us feel wonderfully alive, and as Venus' swing home to her original place is a special time for love, Saturn's return is a kind of happy birthday in our lives - for Saturn. This isn't the Sun and life we're celebrating, but the experiences that make us grow older and wiser. No candles on the cake but notches on our belt of experience. But Saturn's difficulties, if we learn from them, shape us up for good.

As important as the Saturn return is, it is not the most important Saturn transit. It has become so because it is easy - oh yeah, 29, Saturn, dude. But Saturn is generally not the source of life in the chart. The sources of life, as in the world, are the Sun and Moon, the two planets of light. The Sun's heat brings everything to life. And the Moon stabilizes and humidifies the atmosphere, allowing life through water. As powerful as the Saturn return is, it is my experience that Saturn on Sun or Moon are just as strong if not more so that the Saturn return. The oppositions are strong too. But because these transits don't happen at the same time for everyone, fewer people know about them.

Saturn conjunct or opposed Sun is often a stressful time. To know what is stressing us specifically, we look at Saturn and Sun in your chart. If Saturn meets the Sun is in the 7th house, perhaps our partner has to work more hours, we don't get as much time with them, and we feel left out. If Saturn in the 3rd house opposes Sun in the in 9th house, perhaps a difficult relationship with a sibling gets in the way of a trip overseas. The Sun will mean particular things in every individual chart, but the general nature of the Sun is activity. When the Sun comes up, we awake and get on with our day. It is action, life, movement on an external level. Saturn delays, restricts, denies - something about this action gets frustrated and limited in expression. But with these difficulties can come growth - a job with more responsibility, the end of relationship that makes way for the next partner, a new home and the real weight of a 30 year mortgage.

The Moon is the planet of the inner realm - emotions, needs, habits. We feel Saturn's heaviness and fear, and take them quite personally. Wherever Saturn and Moon are in our chart, we *feel* the suffering of this restriction. If Moon is in the 11th house, we might have a loss of a close friend. If Moon is in the 2nd, we might really feel money stress and the underlying issues of self-worth. In Indian astrology Saturn on Moon is the humdinger of all transits. They know that Saturn on Sun and corresponding outer stresses are manageable if we keep our inner happiness. But when we start feeling negative or inadequate, it is difficult for things in the outer world to go our way. The best of Saturn on Moon is an austerity that brings greater benefit. Maybe we've been partying a bit too much. Saturn will say Enough.

There is much to be said about paying attention to pain and learning the lessons. Saturn times are not *just* about difficulties - they are opportunities for wisdom that we don't get with any other transit. But when Saturn is getting us down we turn to Jupiter for relief. It is quite worthwhile to know what Saturn and Jupiter are doing in your chart. Where are you experiencing challenges, and what kind? Where are you getting gifts? I give information on Saturn and Jupiter for each client who comes for any kind of life or update reading.

Saturn right now is in early Leo. This means anyone with a planet in from 0-11 Leo has been, or soon will be, affected by Saturn's heaviness. 0-11 Aquarius is getting the opposition. Jupiter is in mid Libra and will quickly cover the rest of this sign and enter Scorpio in late October. So 10-29 Libra, as well as the same degrees in Gemini and Aquarius, are getting Jupiter's presents, or soon will be.

For this week and next, Jupiter is with the South node, the Tail of the Dragon. Jupiter is a rich uncle who loves to give boons to everyone in his path, but now he is dressed up as a Chinese sage dispensing Taoist fortune cookies. "To amass wealth, mediate on happiness for all beings." "To be wise, first know nothing." For these two weeks, our most special blessings do not have a brand name. We have a special opportunity to integrate teachings and wisdom into our assumptions and fundamental outlook on life.

Star*Watch
All times PDT. See below for comments on other visible planets. The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun is our outer orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects are the energetic pulls of the day, and tell us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for several days (sometimes weeks) before and even after the aspect depending on the planets involved.

Sun * in Leo. We want to shine. We live a bit of our movie-star glamour life. We dress with a bit more snazz, and act with panache. We're living it large. Though Saturn is now in Leo, the Sun has past the test and difficulties feel on the wane. The trap of Leo - me me me!

Moon * days 5 - 11 (new Moon is day 1). Growing Moon meets 1st Quarter challenge on Friday night.

Monday 8/8 * Moon in Virgo, into Libra in the evening, Sun opposite Neptune. Normally productive Moon in Virgo is tempted by taking off to the movies. At least music at work will help you through. Women, if men in your life have *Neptuned* over the weekend, that is, spaced, disappeared, been lost in fog, today they start coming back to their glorious selves.

Tuesday 8/9 * Moon in Libra. Mercury is still retrograde, and even the Tibetan calendar is having a repeat of the usual 4, this year 5, Great Karma Festival days. Auspicious for all good deeds. We connect to teachers and wisdom in the evening.

Wednesday 8/10 * Moon in Libra, Venus square Pluto. These weeks of Venus in Virgo are tough for love. In any decade she'd be working overtime in this sign, but these years she opposes sudden separation Uranus and then squares do-or-die Pluto. Not the easiest for romance. Next week, though, Venus returns to partnership Libra, so cut what you must now and clean out your inner space. This aspect is in the wee hours early Wednesday, so reconciliation more likely in the afternoon and into the evening.

Thursday 8/11 * Moon in Scorpio. Though the energies support going with the flow Tuesday evening through Friday morn, this is not the easiest of days. We may feel the heaviness of power entanglements in the morning, and charged up in the evening - Moon in sensual Scorpio opposes warrior Mars in Taurus. If Venus can be pleased *just so* perhaps there will be pleasure but if not then it takes something physical to allay frustration.

Friday 8/12 * First Quarter Moon in Scorpio. We want to shine with Sun in Leo but we meet our challenge: obsessions, jealousies, power entanglements that spoil the fun. We're overall confident today through the weekend and keen on all things new.

Saturday 8/13 * Moon in Scorpio, into Sagittarius, Mercury square Mars. Mercury is slow, so we'll be feeling this for a few days. Our minds are vexed by our pursuits of pleasure and safety. Many experiences feel good and it's nice to have bank but these do not necessarily bring true peace of mind. With Mercury retrograde, we ourselves might not scream out loud but you can always find a rock-star who can do it for you.

Sunday 8/14 * Moon in Sagittarius, Sun trine Pluto. A power Sunday - we push ourselves, drive beyond, go easily to places both inner and outer we usually shy from. Whatever has been a place of pain is a source of strength today.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

If you don't want to know about Saturn has more to it than Saturn return, just reply with a "No thanks" and you'll be off the list.

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * in Leo. Our minds are bold and confident, and we want some of the spotlight with our speech. We think of elegance and luxury. The best of Leo: it's a grand life! The trap - it's all about me. Mercury in Leo through September 4. Mercury retrogrades July 22 and turns direct on August 15.

Venus * in Virgo. We like organizing, accomplishing, improving. We want a clean body and tidy house. We like to work, so our love life suffers. Don't compound the problem with criticism. The biggest trap - being hard on ourselves with this. I'm not pretty/handsome/big/small/wide/narrow enough! Venus in Virgo through August 16.

Mars * in Taurus. Strong drive for safety and pleasure. We're content to do without risks - we'd rather pad our bank accounts and spend extra time for sheer physical pleasure. Mars retrogrades here 10/1 - 12/9, so in Taurus until February 06.

Jupiter * in Libra. Blessings in love and partnerships! Learning in realms of art and beauty. Jupiter now direct, so abundance and blessings are coming our way! Jupiter in Libra through October 2005.

Saturn * in Cancer. Structure and responsibility in the domain of our innermost feeling life and among our families and tribes. A positive vision of this energy: the sensitive yet authoritative parent. Saturn direct in Cancer through July 2005.

Dragon's Head * in Aries. We gain by new adventures and physical vigor, yet are more prone to hostility.

Dragon's Tail * in Libra. We fear loss in relationships. Art explores the unseen.
