Star Pearls 10*3*05

Dear friends,

Eclipses are in season. This is when the cosmic joker turns out the lights and re-shuffles the deck. You were holding 2 pair, now what's this? Oh OK, now 3 of a kind. The Solar eclipse was this morning, and while not visible we still feel the effect. The lunar eclipse happens at the Full Moon. In a current theory of evolution, scientists see long periods of relative stasis and times of rapid change. In the astrology view, the eclipse seasons are the times of new developments. What hand the eclipse deals you will depend on your birth chart. If you've got a sudden anything going last night or today or two weeks from now, you can probably pin it to the eclipse.

Ever been to India? Blazing hot out, isn't it? No wonder in the Indian system the Sun is considered malefic. And the Moon, the bringer of the life-sustaining monsoon rain, has all the glory. In Indian astrology, the Moon is *way* more important than the Sun. The primary predictive technique is based on the exact position of the Moon at birth, and the Moon's journey through the fixed star nakshatras are a key part of the system. Even in transits the Moon is recognized above all others - Saturn over Moon is the biggie, not Saturn return.

Change the scene. Been to Firenze in winter? Or Switzerland, Germany, France? Pretty cold. Calling the Sun a malefic sounds a bit daft. Giving glory to the Moon doesn't sound too good either. All the Moon does is bring clouds and rain and obscures the life-giving warmth of the Sun. No wonder that Western astrology emphasizes the Sun and likes to ignore the Moon.

What is my view? In all things, balance is best.

In America anyone who knows anything about astrology knows their Sun sign. But millions of people who read their horoscopes don't know their Moon sign or where the Moon is on any given day. This is one reason I am writing this column - to bring the Moon back into balance.

We identify with the Sun, and follow the Moon. A few columns ago I wrote that this is the way to start learning astrology. Now for the next step. We follow the Moon along with your chart. Here's what to do.

Today the Moon is in Libra. Let's say your own natal Moon is in Libra. Whenever the Moon ticks off a planet in your chart, you get an echo of that energy in your life. If it is Moon, then the focus is on emotions, the physical body, nourishment, food, drink and the spiritual life. If you have Venus in Libra, then you get a dose of love and pleasure. If Saturn, then a dash of heaviness.

Instead of reading a book on what Saturn means, you can just see what happens in life when Moon comes to the position of Saturn in your chart. This will happen once a month. And as I mentioned 2 columns ago, it is also quite useful to pay attention to when the Moon hits Saturn in the current sky as well.

What does this give you? Information. If you learn just a bit of astrology and are willing to spend 3 minutes a day thinking about it, this is information that you can then use to your advantage.

When the Moon comes to your natal Sun, you have power in action. When the Moon ticks off Mercury, you have extra power in thought, communication and business. When the Moon joins with Venus, you have extra pleasure and powers of attraction. That's right, Moon on your Venus is a few hours you get each month when you can really work it! Moon on Mars is good for bold action or exercise. Moon on Jupiter is an all round positive, and Moon on Saturn is a time when we can put in our dues but may need some cheering up.

These are the generalities. The specifics will depend on your chart. If you've got a happy Venus, then Moon over Venus will usually be quite pleasurable. If you've got Jupiter that is a little confused, that is, wants to do good but going about it in an inefficient manner, then you may see this happening in your life.

How to tell when these Moon transits are happening? First you need your chart. Many people on this list are my clients, so hopefully you still have it. If you've gotten a reading from me and don't have your chart around, just send an email and I'll send one in the mail. Or you can go to www.astro.com and put in your info. This is also the way to see where the Moon is at any given time. Just look on the homepage at the lower left. The Moon moves about 12 degrees in 24 hours, so if you start to learn the positions of your chart you'll be able to tell what's happening. Don't worry about the exact position down to the very minute. When Moon comes to your birth chart Venus, you'll have a few hours of extra love and pleasure. It's not like the transit starts at 3:03 and ends at 3:05. It will set the tone for a few hours.

Like much of astrology, this starts simply but actually is very profound. Oh just follow the Moon right? And see where it is in my chart, and when it ticks off my planets? OK, got it. If you do this for a season, which is 3 passes of the Moon around your chart, you'll probably start to see some patterns. Then you'll be able to use time more effectively. Moon on Venus is good for pleasure - what kind? Well what turns you on? What you naturally lean to when Moon is on Venus? The Moon will come around to natal Venus again a month from now, and a month after that, and that. This is why it is called the wheel of life. We go around and around.

Each time the Moon crosses a planet in your birth chart, the universe gives us the sheet music of that planet. How we play that music is up to us. But with astrology you at least have the score. Oh love song today; tomorrow, sad Saturn, next day, happy Jupiter.

Next week I'll introduce the 3rd step - how to best use each hour of each day.

Star*Watch
All times Pacific Daylight Time. See below for comments on other visible planets. The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun is our fundamental orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects are the energetic pulls of the day, and tell us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for several days and sometimes weeks before and after the aspect depending on the planets involved.

Sun * in Libra. Libra is the season of relationships. We experience life through our connections with others. We delight in possibilities, but also have indecision as the Libra scale swings back and forth, measuring the options. The joys of partnership Libra are rich experiences in relating. The difficulty of Libra is the very same focus on relationships means we easily lose our own point of view.

Moon * days 1 - 7 (new Moon is day 1). Growing Moon begins our Libra partnership journey.

Monday 10/3 * New Moon in Libra. This is literally 'birth of relationships.' With Venus, lady of sign Libra, just having had a thingy with an extra potent Mars over the weekend, some relationships may have come to a head. Mars has now backed off, and Venus later this week leaves obsessive Scorpio and heads into free-wheeling Sagittarius. Our love life is about to lighten up. Today through Tuesday there is an overall focus on learning and humanitarian concerns in the context of our relationships.

Tuesday 10/4 * Moon in Libra, into Scorpio at 5:00 pm. Happy day - we are thinking our most positive thoughts. From business to friendship our minds are UP, especially in the morning with the exact Moon-Jupiter conjunction at 8:15 am. Whatever our goals, we can see the plan of accomplishment. Moon in the sign of the Phoenix makes us willing to go through the fire and today we can easily psych ourselves up to do it. Since Scorpio is the next sign of the Sun, the next few days also give us a preview of the themes of the next zodiac month.

Wednesday 10/5 * Moon in Scorpio, Mercury conjunct Jupiter. A bit of a tough morning - we're a little combative around 9:30, which then turns to frustration and some disappointment at 10:30 at Moon square Saturn. But overall our minds and positive thoughts are pulling us through with Mercury conjunct Jupiter exact at 2:30 pm when the quick witted messenger meets up with the royal prince. The prince is amused at the crafty messenger and has all kinds of new ideas to do good, and the messenger benefits greatly from Jupiter's golden largesse. Today through Friday, we want everyone to benefit from our success.

Thursday 10/6 * Moon in Scorpio, Sun conjunct South node. Sun hits the South node around 11:30, and we may face issues of the past or feel an overall lack of vitality and confidence. At the same time this is the birth of new cycle that the eclipse season is setting in motion. Moon moves towards Venus all day, exact at 10:50 pm. This doesn't mean we have to wait until late night to start our focus on pleasure! We start to feel aspects several hours before they perfect. Today great for a lunch date around 2 pm, and then the full-on late night.

Friday 10/7 * Moon in Sagittarius, Sun trine Neptune, Venus into Sagittarius. Anyone who knows Sagittarius knows it is the party sign! Sag just likes to be happy and knows how to find the bright side of life. With Sun trine Neptune, we'll have delight in art, movies, music and alcohol. At 10 pm and for the weekend, our energy turns up a notch and we'll want to head out there and find something new.

Saturday 10/8 * Moon in Sagittarius, Mercury into Scorpio. Our minds go from options to focus, from partnership to deep truths, from chatter to unspoken knowing, from 'let's get together' to 'let's get it on.' Intensity time around 4:00, but happier into the evening when Sag can really shine.

Sunday 10/9 * Moon in Capricorn. Party's over - Moon in Capricorn makes us get serious. About what will depend on your chart. While Moon in Sag lives for the day, Moon in Capricorn takes the 30 year plan and acts in accordance with the vision. Since a free Sunday for most, we may turn towards elders or old things.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * in Libra, entering Scorpio. Our minds go from options to focus, from keeping partnership in play to the unflinching truth, from chatter to unspoken knowing, from 'let's get together' to 'let's get it on.' We can research and probe and penetrate deeper issues and causes. With Mars retrograde in Taurus, we have power in analyzing the past, especially in areas of pleasure and resources. Mercury in Scorpio through October 30.

Venus * in Scorpio, entering Sagittarius. If your love life has recently been more like a soap opera than your liking, then things should lighten up with Venus into Sagittarius. Venus in Scorpio while admittedly sexy is just a little bit too driven to get the results she really wants. Venus in Sag says oh forget it all, give me a drink and let's go shopping! Let's have a good time. We explore and find new ways of enjoying ourselves. Venus in Sagittarius through November 5.

Mars * in Taurus. Now retrograde, so we are feeling Mars more internally. This can mean that we're extra self driven at best and more frustrated or angry at our selves at worst. Whatever Mars connects to in our personal charts gets put on hold until direct motion on December 9. Mars in Taurus until February 06.

Jupiter * in Libra. Blessings in love and partnerships! Learning in realms of art and beauty. Jupiter now direct and past the Dragon's Tail, so abundance and blessings are coming our way! Jupiter in Libra through October 2005.

Saturn * in Leo. Essential challenge to self expression. Color feels a bit much; we prefer black. The people revolt against the leaders. Anti-authoritarianism in many guises. A positive vision of this energy: we know the work we need to do and do it. Saturn in Leo September 2007.

Dragon's Head * in Aries. We gain by new adventures and physical vigor, yet are more prone to hostility.

Dragon's Tail * in Libra. We fear loss in relationships. Art explores the unseen.
