Star Pearls 10*10*05

Dear friends,

In honor of Discovery day, we're going to circle the zodiac on the lookout for astrology holidays. We celebrate the Sun into each sign, even though the muggles don't realize it. Astrology is always there behind the scenes as soon as you look. Here's a list of zodiac months and their corresponding holidays. Since Scorpio is just two weeks away, we'll start here.

Scorpio - Halloween! The celebration of darkness & ghosts is so obviously Scorpio even astrology newbies can see it. In Scorpio our attention naturally turns to our deeper emotions, especially what is hidden, and this means we face and embrace our dark side. At Halloween our witches and devils get to come out and play. The kiddies get treats and the adults get tricks. Halloween parties in SF live up to the Scorpio sex rep, and here we have the biggest sex party of the year, the Exotic-Erotic Ball.

Sagittarius - Thanksgiving! This and 4th of July are *the* two most American of holidays. What do we do? Eat too much on Thursday, and shop too much on Friday. Sagittarius is known for expansion - waistlines and credit card debt both included as we engage in our national ritual of going over the top. We save restrictions such as 'that's enough' and 'but what my debt' for Capricorn. In Sagittarius time of Thanksgiving to the winter solstice, we go from one holiday party to the next.

Capricorn - Christmas and New Years. In somber Capricorn, we have two of our most celebrated holidays. What do we most need in the gloomy darkness of winter? How about a day where everyone in your family gives you a present and tells you how much they appreciate you? And then a week later everyone says 'happy new year' so often you can start to believe it. The start of Capricorn marks the beginning of the Sun's increase in light. The Sun shines the least on the winter solstice, and three days later (right around the 25th) the days start to lengthen. This is the re-birth of the Sun. Whatever your tradition, we celebrate this birth and the new year. As the year begins we make our accomplishment list - we're going to do this and this and this - the Capricorn mentality right there in our national ritual of New Year's resolutions.

Aquarius - Why do those resolutions typically last only 3 weeks? Because right around the 20th of January we enter Aquarius and toss the rules to the winds. Aquarius also has a strong sense of collective history, and we celebrate President's Day and African American history. The US Moon is in Aquarius, so it is fitting that the biggest collective media event of the year is Super Bowl Sunday. Valentine's Day is another big holiday of the month, and though we could say we're honoring our human connections with romance and love notes I'd rather we push V-day into Pisces, a more heartfelt sign than intellectual Aquarius.

Pisces - St Patrick's Day. Pisces, the great water sign, is the season of wet. We celebrate the green in the grass and trees coming from the rain. Everyone, Celtic or not, is invited to drink themselves silly. If you know people with Sun or Moon in Pisces, you know that this sign has a higher attraction to liquid dessert than the others.

Aries - Easter. Due to the Christmas calendar Easter will vary from year to year, but it usually falls in Aries, the first sign of spring. Eggs are symbols of birth - we page homage to new beginnings by decorating them and letting children find new life hidden in the grass. Animals everywhere pop out with a new generation of their young, and lamb makes up many a ceremonial feast.

Taurus - May Day is a celebration of pleasure, nature and fertility as women weave flowers in their hair and dance with men around the May pole. A real May Day party is outside, where we can have our feet on the grass, nibble on fresh fruit, sip wine and cavort with a crowd.

Gemini - Memorial Day. What do we do as school exams wrap up? Go exploring! Memorial Day is the first federal holiday in the US since January, and nearly everyone takes off to get out of town.

Cancer - 4th of July. This is another one of those 'it's so obvious' zodiac holidays. What is Cancer all about? Food and family. What is 4th of July? Food and family!

Leo - Summertime. In the sign of Me, we don't really have a collective holiday. But it is the time when most Americans take their personal vacations and go play.

Virgo - Labor Day. Virgo is the sign of service, and we honor the workers. As Leo ends we know it's time to get back to accomplishment, and right at the sign change at the end of August we all know that playtime is over and we're back to work.

Libra - This was the trickiest so I've saved it for last. It seems the sign of relationships and justice doesn't have a recognized holiday like many of the other signs here in the US. Perhaps it is due to having Saturn in Libra in our natal chart - no partying wherever Saturn is, we're too busy working. But in other parts of the world and even in the US, Octoberfest is a big deal. Why is Octoberfest mostly in September? Really, this is true. In my view Octoberfest is a festival of the autumn equinox. We say to Virgo "enough work," now let's enjoy ourselves, and celebrate our human connections. "We're all brothers and sisters" whispers the special hop variety used in Octoberfest beers.

Star*Watch
All times Pacific Daylight Time. See below for comments on other visible planets. The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun is our fundamental orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects are the energetic pulls of the day, and tell us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for several days and sometimes weeks before and after the aspect depending on the planets involved.

Sun * in Libra. Libra is the season of relationships. We experience life through our connections with others. We delight in possibilities, but also have indecision as the Libra scale swings back and forth, measuring the options. The joys of partnership Libra are rich experiences in relating. The difficulty of Libra is the very same focus on relationships means we easily lose our own point of view.

Moon * days 8 - 14 (new Moon is day 1). Waxing Moon increases towards Full on Monday 10/17.

Monday 10/10 * 1st Quarter Moon in Capricorn. In the season of Libra relationships, our challenge comes from Capricorn responsibilities. How to make time for kids or lovers when we are so busy working? How do we balance our professional aspirations with our need for relationships? No answers with the squares, but the rhythm of time poses the challenges.

Tuesday 10/11 * Moon in Aquarius 9:05 am. The seriousness of the past two days passes as we enjoy our human connections. Sun in Libra with Moon in Aquarius transmits a strong message about the dignity of humanity and that we are all connected through our relationships. Moon in Aquarius hooking up with Venus in Sagittarius around 6:00 pm makes tonight ideal for explorations in pleasure. We toss the rules and do something new.

Wednesday 10/12 * Moon in Aquarius. Sun and Moon cooperate today, giving light and energy towards our ideals in community and power in our artistic expression. The evening is less peaceful, as Moon gets irate wanting some bold moves from Mars, but Mars these days is hobbled with a broken foot and is sitting out the game. Real life translations: we know we need more exercise, but erring on the side of laziness; or we have some frustration about ways we are moving ahead, but still act as though we're in the past.

Thursday 10/13 * Moon in Aquarius, into Pisces at 11:05 am, Mercury trine Uranus. Mercury the cosmic messenger is the planet of mind and thought, and Uranus the cosmic joker the planet of sudden breakthroughs. Put them together and you've got genius level insights today, especially in all investigations and pursuits of hidden and deeper meaning. As Moon approaches positive Jupiter, we'll all start feeling that what we really want from life, especially in Libra relationships, is totally possible.

Friday 10/14 * Moon in Pisces, Venus square Uranus. Yesterday our minds benefited from the zip-zaps of Uranus; today our love life is a bit vexed by the very same energy. We're a little upset at the back and forth, especially in the morning, yet we can take the higher road and laugh it off. With Pisces Moon we feel the experience of everyone; and tonight we know that some people are not thinking too happily.

Saturday 10/15 * Moon in Pisces, Mercury square Saturn, Moon into Aries 12:40 pm. The messenger of the skies is having a bit of rough time. He's gotten orders from a Retrograde Mars go back and check into what went wrong 2 months ago, and on his way runs into Saturn who won't let him get by. In English, this means our minds are caught between a proverbial hard place and rock later this week and today, but any communication frustrations pass as the day goes on. At least this morning we'll still have Pisces Moon giving us a go with the flow attitude and extra imagination to aid our innovative solutions. In the afternoon we're all action, so have your strategy lined up.

Sunday 10/16 * Moon in Aries, Venus trine Saturn. What an interesting week - first Mercury trines Uranus, then Venus squares; then Mercury squares Saturn, now Venus trines. Flip - Flop. Whereas our thinking felt Saturnian constraints, now our love and pleasure is benefiting from stability, old things & sugar daddies.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * in Scorpio. Our minds can focus, investigate, go deep into truth. We can research, probe and penetrate our way unflinchingly towards real motivations and causes. With Mars retrograde in Taurus, we have power in analyzing the past, especially in areas of pleasure and resources. Mercury in Scorpio through October 30.

Venus * in Sagittarius. Venus in Sagittarius is a love of exploring and finding new ways of pleasure and enjoyment - new people too. The love of the party wants to lighten up, go shopping and have a good time. Foreign things -movies, music, art, food, cultures (and yes people again) all attract. Venus in Sagittarius through November 5.

Mars * in Taurus. Now retrograde, so we are feeling Mars more internally. This can mean that we're extra self driven at best and more frustrated or angry at our selves at worst. Whatever Mars connects to in our personal charts gets put on hold until direct motion on December 9. Mars in Taurus until February 06.

Jupiter * in Libra. Blessings in love and partnerships! Learning in realms of art and beauty. Jupiter now direct and past the Dragon's Tail, so abundance and blessings are coming our way! Jupiter in Libra through October 2005.

Saturn * in Leo. Essential challenge to self expression. Color feels a bit much; we prefer black. The people revolt against the leaders. Anti-authoritarianism in many guises. A positive vision of this energy: we know the work we need to do and do it. Saturn in Leo September 2007.

Dragon's Head * in Aries. We gain by new adventures and physical vigor, yet are more prone to hostility.

Dragon's Tail * in Libra. We fear loss in relationships. Art explores the unseen.
