Now on to the column and a welcome to all the new readers. The sky news this
week is that Mercury the messenger is now retrograde. Communications and
thinking are now oriented backwards in time. This is great for catching up on
past paperwork, contacting old friends and learning from the past, especially
while Mercury is in Sagittarius. But this time is not so good for new technology
endeavors, major purchases and entering long term contracts. Mercury Rx is not
the disaster that many people think - but in our revved culture a slowdown which
some secretly welcome is often viewed as a hassle.
If you know what to expect, you can actually work it to your advantage. Read the
books that have been sitting on your shelf. Catch up with friends. Take care of
lingering details so you can launch your new projects in about 3 weeks without
anything in the way. Some astro websites will tell you to 'reconsider.' This is
true - we naturally experience changes of mind around the retrograde. But now
our thinking is from the past, and will become increasingly more so these 3
weeks. Now is *not* the time to make a major decision about anything! Because
when Mercury turns direct in 3 weeks, our minds will likely change again.

Astrology is a system of symbols that describe the joys and sufferings of life.
We have love, pleasure and desire of Venus, the abundance of uplifting qualities
of Jupiter; the courage and fight of Mars, and the long term view and fear of
Saturn. Being human, it is easy to overlook the good and lapse into 'gloom and
doom' astrology. Mars, MARS is coming! Run! And Saturn, Saturn on the IC!! Hide,
HIDE!!!
This does little good.
That said, if you are feeling that this is a difficult time, you are right. Mars
is backing into a square with Saturn. The aspect is exact on Friday, but we're
feeling it all week. Most of the time when Mars and Saturn come together in an
aspect it lasts about 8 days. This time, because the aspect forms as they are
both moving very slowly, it lasts 8 weeks. This is tough, even historic. But
let's be precise about it.
Mars is courage, drive, confidence and on the more difficult side anger,
hostility and violence. Saturn is structure, things that last, effort and
responsibility, but also fear, anxiety and the end of things. Mars is backing
into a square with Saturn - this means our confidence and drive feel blocked. We
may be feeling anger at the authorities that limited us, especially in the past.
And the areas that Mars connects to in our charts may be cut off.
At the same time, we have an incredibly positive Jupiter trine Uranus which is
opening the door to exciting new possibilities, especially in the areas of
Scorpio and Pisces. Note: this doesn't mean Scorpio and Pisces Suns! This means
the houses where Scorpio and Pisces fall - for everyone.
Here's a quick rundown. If you don't know your rising sign, look up your chart

Aries rising - You may be lacking your usual confidence and experiencing a level
of frustration much higher than usual. Possible new developments in joint
financing and business deals, which will really take off in December. Surprise
changes in retreat centers, and a good time to shake a bad habit.
Taurus rising - Relationships that looked good two months ago are now coming
into difficulty, but these will resolve in December. Partnerships will be an
area of special blessings for the next year. Nice surprises in your circle of
friends.
Gemini rising - Friends, job issues and maybe even pets are taking the hit. New
life both in workaday job matters and health routines, and a big change in your
career perhaps due to a new partnership.
Cancer rising - Career, entertainments and children on hold or under fire.
Entertainments - this means romance, all manner of play and kids - have big
developments brewing in December and into 2006. Sudden surprises with travel &
education.
Leo rising - Travel and education cut off; home & family troublesome now but
will have major improvements in about a month. Joint finances and possibly
therapies take a sudden turn for the better.
Virgo rising - Big news in communications and short trips and maybe siblings
too, but still these are challenged this week. New partners or positive changes
with your existing one.
Libra rising - Partnerships very tough right now. Money challenged too, but new
opportunities here will take off in a month and into 2006. Good time to learn
new skills, especially with technology - just don't buy a new computer yet.
Scorpio rising - You've got it good, but you've got it bad. Partnership troubles
resolving in month. In December you'll be much happier and may have financial
improvements as well. Sudden surprises in the 5th house of fun and children can
mean new entertainments or even a new kid!
Sagittarius rising - This year will be especially good to enter times of retreat
- yoga vacations, spiritual centers, meditation. Opportunities for fun are
blocked, and children may be having trouble. Redecoration or an outright move
can be positive.
Capricorn rising - Both home and friends are both not having easy times, but
your circle may expand this winter. Writing and communications take new turns
and may be getting benefit of new technology.
Aquarius rising - Writing & short trips are delayed, and siblings not having it
easy. Career has new life but you'll see it more in a month along with the
possibility for a raise or new sources of income.
Pisces rising - You are having a wild week. Teachers, education, travel are
giving you a sudden change of plan. But money is on hold.

All times Pacific Daylight Time. See below for comments on other visible
planets. The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun is our
fundamental orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects are the energetic
pulls of the day, and tell us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet
aspects influence the energies for several days and sometimes weeks before and
after the aspect depending on the planets involved.
Sun * in the last week of Scorpio. We go more deeply into emotions here than any
other sign. Think of Scorpio season as therapy time - we can get more done
working on our emotions now than any other time of year. Besides, next week is
Sagittarius and we'll want to party. The Sun in Scorpio heats up our sexual
energy. The traps of this sign are obsessing over emotions and sleights, and
power plays in relationships.
Moon * days 14 - 20 (new Moon is day 1). Full Moon in Taurus on Tuesday.
Monday 11/14 * Our emotional sensitivity of the past few days gives way to more
confidence. Though we feel positive about our long term plans, today we feel
like we're facing a challenge. Moon squares Saturn at 9:45 pm and conjuncts Mars
at midnight on the night of a full Moon; many will be up late, so do what you
can work off Mars physical energy tonight!
Tuesday 11/15 * Full Moon in Taurus, Uranus direct at 4:10 pm. Taurus likes
stability and is the sign of containment. Uranus breaks us out of routine and is
the trickster of sudden surprises. Though Moon in Taurus is always good to
connect with our bodies, today our nerves are frayed by sudden changes in
routine. Moon in Taurus opposing Sun in Scorpio is a power full Moon. Taurus
just wants satisfaction; with the Sun in Scorpio Queen Moon doesn't like how
King Sun is going about getting it.
Wednesday 11/16 * Moon in Gemini. With the intellectual curiosity of Gemini
we'll be able to put some of the technology focus of Uranus to use. But don't
overlook Mercury Rx so hold off on the new computer and software. Instead learn
new tricks on the toys you've got. A bit of a dilemma between play and
exploration and desire for long term stability tonight.
Thursday 11/17 * Moon in Gemini, Venus trine Mars. We're productive at work but
lady Venus extending her hand to warrior Mars gets our blood moving. This
harmony between women and men is good for friendships, romance, partnerships and
passion too, even if Mars is currently Rx. Women if you've been wanting to
contact a lover from your past this is the week! Today, and even yesterday and
tomorrow, our minds may feel on fire, as if we cannot stop the torrent of
thoughts if we tried; so try to put this to good use!
Friday 11/18 * Moon in Gemini, into Cancer 11:40 am, Mars square Saturn 12:30
pm. Tough day, but a much happier evening. The frustrations and even outright
angers we've been feeling come to a head; and we're feeling it all intensely
with the Cancer Moon. Cancer Moon is nourished with fine meals so if this week
has frazzled you make sure to eat your favorite strengthening & comforting foods
tonight.
Saturday 11/19 * Moon in Cancer. Moon in Cancer naturally pays attention to
feelings of the moment; this is her strength. Venus on the other hand, is
seeking long term accomplishments in Capricorn. How to balance these is the
question of the day.
Sunday 11/20 * Moon in Cancer, into Leo 10:10 pm, Mercury square Uranus.
Harmonious day overall, especially in the evening; and our minds crackle with
totally innovative ideas. Some may be too out of the box for the mainstream, and
we might not get real play on all of them with Merc Rx, but some might be worth
saving for direct 3 weeks later.

Wandering Stars - the planets
Mercury * in Sagittarius. The messenger is playing the part of the big guy and
is a bit out of his league. We ignore facts and data and jump to the big
conclusions. Still our minds are overall happy and have good intentions so we
get away with this some of the time. Our minds, communication and learning
expand and go into new territory. We have more... and more... to say.
***Mercury retrograde alert!*** Mercury retrogrades 11/13 and turns direct on
December 12/3.
Venus * in Capricorn. We want to be safe in our desires. We take the long term
approach to pleasure and relationships. If the partner isn't marriage potential,
move on. Older things attract, yet we are willing to save and sacrifice for
greater goals. Venus in Capricorn through December 15.
Mars * in Taurus. Now retrograde, so we are feeling Mars more internally. This
can mean that we're extra self driven at best and more frustrated or angry at
our selves at worst. Whatever Mars connects to in our personal charts gets put
on hold until direct motion on December 9. Mars in Taurus until February 06.
Jupiter * in Scorpio. Jupiter entering Scorpio blesses therapies, healing
modalities, joint finance arrangements and amplifies our sexuality. Jupiter
wants to do good, but in Scorpio functions by responding to others with some
kind of attack. The energy: This might hurt, but it is for your own good and my
own protection! Great regeneration and power is possible if we find the positive
side of our deepest emotions. Jupiter here also benefits Aquarius (by antiscia)
and sister water signs of Cancer and Pisces. Jupiter in Scorpio through November
2006.
Saturn * in Leo. Essential challenge to self expression. Color feels a bit much;
we prefer black. The people revolt against the leaders. Anti-authoritarianism in
many guises. A positive vision of this energy: we know the work we need to do
and do it. Saturn in Leo September 2007.
Dragon's Head * in Aries. We gain by new adventures and physical vigor, yet are
more prone to hostility.
Dragon's Tail * in Libra. We fear loss in relationships. Art explores the
unseen.
