Star Pearls 12*26*05

Dear friends,

Pundits of politics and culture are reviewing 2005, and I'll join in by commenting on predictions made this past summer. Watch for a batch of new forecasts in coming weeks. Read the original full set of predictions here.

On President Bush - "Wayward communications undo the power of his administration more seriously now than in past years of his presidency. After August 13 or so, he is released from his problems and temporarily in the clear. These communications or leaked documents such as Downing Street memo or Valeria Plame issue may lead to a full fledged scandal that dodges Bush and his administration well into late 2005 and even in 2006. Problems resume in September 2005, and December 2005 and January 2006 are particularly rough months. His enemies come after him doggedly and persistently. Issues may not completely resolve until early summer 2006. However, I think he will keep the presidency and even if there are calls for impeachment he will not be removed from office." *** 7/14/05

Comment 12/26: Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald indicted the VPs chief of staff Lewis Libby in late October. We haven't heard much from the prosecutor of late - will the real Fitzmas be in January? Stay tuned. More recently, Bush himself has admitted to spying on Americans without a warrant, claiming this was necessary in the war against terrorism. Even Republican legislators think otherwise - Arlen Specter, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, calls such action "inappropriate" and has promised hearings in early 2006. And even the I-word surfaced this week from CA Senator Barbara Boxer. Both scandals are a result of 'wayward communications' - Plame-gate for things that shouldn't have been said, and Spy-gate for information that shouldn't have been gathered in the way that it was.

"Bush's Social Security plan will be officially dead in the water later this year. This may be part of the battles he loses in late 2005 (see note above)." ** 7/14/05

Comment 12/26: Check.

"The real estate market will peak sometime between now (records could even show May or June 05 as the official high) and September 2006. Successive turning points: 5/05, 7/05, 10/05, 12/05, 6/06, 8/06." *** 7/14/05.

Comment 12/26: Accurate. SF Gate reported in November 05 that in October "home sales declined for the seventh consecutive month." This means the peak was in March 05, but even in July there were very few people publicly commenting on the end of the boom. Now this view is much more accepted. Read the SF Gate article here:

The slowdown is now nationwide. "Housing Market Shows Signs of Slowdown" reported the NY Times on November 28th, and followed up with "New Home Sales Dropped Last Month" on December 24th. If you have a free account (or are willing to set up one) you can read both articles here:

"In 2005 or 2006, there will be entertainment such as movies, TV shows, musicals, or books that capture the public imagination in a notable way and remain a part of culture for years to come. Previous examples: Les Miserable and Phantom of the Opera in the 80s; The Beatles' White Album and Carlos Castaneda in the 60s; CS Lewis' The Lion Witch and Wardrobe and Jack Kerouac's On The Road in the 50s. It also is a good time for revival of any of these or similar cultural phenomena of 1987, 1969, and 1951. We will have our own such classics arriving on the scene later this year and in 2006." *** 7/14/05

In July the Narnia trailer was out so not claiming prescience here, but because 2006 links to the original publication of this series we could expect in advance that both the movie and a consequent return to the books would capture the public imagination and become a notable success. 2005-06 promises both revivals and new creations - I'm still on the lookout for the new stars.

The Sun and Moon together set the tone of the time. The Sun is our fundamental orientation for the month; Moon signs and aspects are the energetic pulls of the day, and tell us how we approach the truth of the Sun. Planet aspects influence the energies for several days and sometimes weeks before and after the aspect depending on the planets involved.

Sun * in Capricorn. As the light begins to increase, we sense beginnings and the long road ahead. We plan our accomplishments and are willing to let go of the hindrances that get in our way. And so the Capricorn ritual of New Year's Resolutions! Capricorn can be a somber sign, so we also remind ourselves and others to be happy several times a day! Yet this time around with Capricorn's ruler Saturn in Leo, winter will be a bit warmer, luxurious and playful than most. The typical traps of Cap: scarcity mentality, fear based action, "I'm not good enough" despite great success and acclaim. The traps of Cap with Saturn in Leo - we want luxury, but we've gotta pay for it.

Moon * days 26 - 1 (new Moon is day 1). New Moon in Capricorn Friday morning on 12/30.

Monday 12/26 * Moon in Scorpio. We are driven to establish security and create pleasure for ourselves, and are willing to fight against any powers that are getting in our way. Some struggle midday especially about 1:10 pm, then the most positive qualities of this therapeutic and regenerative sign early evening around 5:20 pm. This evening ripe for pleasures with women, connecting with friends or past lovers.

Tuesday 12/27 * Moon in Scorpio, Mars square Saturn. The interminable Mars-Saturn square, in effect since October, is now passing! If you've felt that this holiday season has been darker and more stressful than most, this is the reason. With gumption Mars now moving past limiting Saturn after 4:10 pm, much of what has been blocked or prevented in the last 3 months will finally start happening. A good night for massage - therapy through the hands - otherwise we'll have emotional insights both penetrating and uplifting later this afternoon, and a more active evening.

Wednesday 12/28 * Moon in Sagittarius 12:45 am. Sagittarius expands and goes beyond, and today we positively change our plans of accomplishment with the benefic of technology or some sudden revelation. We go a different way midday, and enjoy our older luxuries in the eve. This afternoon and for the new two days we more strongly sense the beginnings of the new year.

Thursday 12/29 * Moon in Sagittarius. Today we enlarge our world through learning and communicating as Moon in Sagittarius connects with Messenger Mercury at 3:25 pm. Mercury in Sag is generally positive yet sees so much to buy or read or learn that follow-through can be lacking. The tone changes from expansion mind to raw experience in the evening with a peak at 7:00 pm.

Friday 12/30 * Moon in Capricorn 3:35 am, new Moon in Capricorn 7:10 am. The best day for new year's resolutions and all new beginnings - the diet, the budget, the exercise routine, any new plan whatsoever. With Sun and Moon in Capricorn we'll be set on our long term accomplishments. Yet with Capricorn's ruler Saturn in Leo, we'll still need some luxury and playtime. If it's cold or wet, we'll be dreaming of the Sun. Stronger physical energy later this afternoon and evening. Our minds have the power of stripping away in the name of the good.

Saturday 12/31 * Moon in Capricorn, Mercury conjunct Pluto. The messenger visiting the Lord of the Underworld is not exactly festive but ideal for an end of year purge of our space or beliefs. This aspect is exact early in the morn, so we'll be getting the energy Thursday and especially Friday night. A dim Moon in Capricorn is just not the best night for a big whoop-di-doo. We might have more pleasure, and get far more bangs for bucks, at a smaller party with friends.

Sunday 1/1/06 * Moon in Aquarius 4:15 am. For those who make it into the wee hours, the time for the best kissin' is 4:25 am when Moons meets up with Lady Venus. Otherwise Ms Friend morphs into Ms Boss with around noon, and our recent pleasures in learning and connecting with community return to overwork for the next several weeks. Those hung over can walk it off midday, and the clearheaded will be so strongly motivated for accomplishment and material success that everything else takes a back seat. Easy to feel the end of holiday blues tonight around 8:05 pm, but January 06 will be much easier in so many ways than the fall of 2005 that we all have a lot to look forward to.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * in Sagittarius. Mercury into Sagittarius means the little guy is doing too much thinking, learning, talking and shopping. But at least we're enjoying it in a scattershot way. Mercury in Sagittarius through January 3 2006.

Venus * in retrograde in Aquarius, backing into Capricorn on January 1. Venus in Aquarius means fresh ideas in attraction, romance and relationships. We retain a certain independence with Venus in the sign of humanity, but as long as we're not boxed in Venus can maintain long term love here. Venus moving back into Capricorn means pleasure in accomplishment and itching for long term markers like the investment account, land, and marriage. With Venus Rx, there is a simple answer: wait.

*** Venus retrograde alert! *** Venus starts movement backwards on December 24. Just like Mercury Rx means don't buy new computers, Venus Rx means postpone those luxury purchases. With Venus in Aquarius, this means put off the luxury technology that you don't really need. When Venus re-enters in serious Capricorn, don't be in a rush to buy stocks or real estate either. And most important: don't get married! Short term trysts, as long as you can negotiate the consequences, can warm up winter. Venus direct on February 2 2006.

Mars * in Taurus. Now direct, so forward energy in all battles. We resume exercise and our pursuits of pleasures and material security are back into gear. Mars moving to square Saturn means we're willing to take on and fight the authorities that are getting in our way. Mars in Taurus until February 06.

Jupiter * in Scorpio. Jupiter in Scorpio blesses therapies, healing modalities, joint finance arrangements and amplifies our sexuality. Jupiter wants to do good, but in Scorpio functions by responding to others with some kind of attack. The energy: This might hurt, but it is for your own good and my own protection! Great regeneration and power is possible if we find the positive side of our deepest emotions. Jupiter here also benefits Aquarius (by antiscion) and sister water signs of Cancer and Pisces. Jupiter in Scorpio through November 2006.

Saturn * in Leo. Now retrograde, so developments in some long term structures in life are on hold. Essential challenge to self expression. Color feels a bit much; we prefer black. The people revolt against the leaders. Anti-authoritarianism in many guises. A positive vision of this energy: we know the work we need to do and do it. Saturn in Leo September 2007.

Dragon's Head * in Aries. We gain by new adventures and physical vigor, yet are more prone to hostility.

Dragon's Tail * in Libra. Relationships seem troubled by unseen or past murkiness. Art explores the unseen.
