Leo lions
Star*Watch

Straight to the Moon
Wandering Stars

Dear friends,

Welcome to Sun in Leo! People born with Sun in the Lion are bold, dramatic, colorful, the life of the party, right? Confident, proud, playful, encouraging and great lovers too.

Some of these stereotypes definitely hold up. There are a lot of incredible people with Sun in Leo. Essential power and belief in oneself goes far in life. In this column, though, I'd like to talk two more aspects of Leo - one that you don't hear too often, and one that you do.

Lions - I mean the animals - do look pretty with their incredible manes of hair. Look at me, that big coiff says, I'm the king! True enough, and if you forget for too long they will roar loud enough to make you remember. But sometimes lions do more than look great and roar. Let's not forget that these royal creatures are also *lions.* Of the 12 zodiac symbols, most are animals, some are humans, but only 2 are real threats - the lion and the scorpion.

A true story: a few months ago Reuters reported that a man at a zoo in Kiev, Ukraine, shouted something about God protecting him and snuck into the cage of a lioness. What happened? "A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery." Dead.

This is absolutely no comment about God, Christianity or people in Kiev. It's about lions and their behavior when they perceive a threat in their domain. They will obliterate their foe.

Want real life examples? GW Bush is good at playing whome?niceguy Sun in Cancer, but his rising sign, Mercury, Pluto and Venus are all in Leo. What has happened to people who dare to contradict? Is it the Cancer let's be fair or is it to eliminate them like the lioness?

Again, no comment on politics intended. Whether you're Dem or Pub, Saddam was taken out, as was Valerie Plame, and many others who have voiced dissent.

The chart of the country of Israel has Mars in Leo, and just last week they had their own Mars return. Bad timing by Hezbolla - this is like strolling into the lion's den at feeding time. Israel is not going to stop until the enemy is obliterated. Thankfully a Venus return also kicked in over the weekend and made them more amenable to a cease-fire and international solution, but not before Mars does what it has to do first.

The moral of the story of the lioness: pay your respects to the Leos out there. Do not cross them unless you are prepared to deal.

The other thing you will hear about the Sun in Leos is that they are playful. This is true to come extent. The lion wants to do just what she or he wants to do, without any orders or commands from anyone else. Maybe this is why so many people go on vacation with the Sun in Leo. Boss? No, no way, I'm outta here. But frequently you will hear that the Leos are *childlike.* This is because a lot of astrology has associated the signs with the houses, and linked Leo as the 5th sign to the 5th house of fun, enjoyments and kids.

Traditional astrology says nothing of the sort. Leo is the most powerful, regal, kingly and queenly sign, in addition to being the most ferocious. If you think about it, the combination makes sense. Kings can only become kings by asserting their power and triumphing over enemies.

Leo is the sign of the Sun and heart. What happens in Leo is that we express our inner truth, our authentic selves, our heart's beat. If what you see is a lot of childlike behavior, it may be more a comment on people in this society than on Leos per se. After all, in most centuries and in most places, kings who acted like children did not get to be king.

Now a few more comments for the astrology literate. Are you bored at work? Tune in to the astro clock! Not only are planets moving through signs and constantly interacting, the Earth spins and the whole lot of them appear to circle the earth. All planets rise, culminate and set, not just the Sun. In my experience of watching the ongoing astrology, the influences on the present moment (beyond the general condition of the day indicated by the positions of the Sun, Moon and other planets) are these: the rising sign and its ruler, planets hitting the angles and then other cusps, and equally strong is the ruler of the hour and its condition. How interesting! Venus in Cancer is on the MC and my friend just called and asked me out to dinner. Oh, it is Moon hour and I just stopped for a tea break. Such synchronicity happens all the time.

Sun * in Leo! With Sun in Leo, we want to be king or queen of the jungle. If the boss is in the way, go on vacation. True the Sun in Leo appreciates luxury and playtime, but the heart of Leo is self realization and authentic experience. For this the real Sun in Leo will forsake the glitter and go all the way to truth.  The Sun also has a special influence on Sundays, Wednesday nights and all Sun hours. For planetary days and hours at your location (highly recommended!), download freeware from ChronosXP.

Moon * New Moon in Leo Monday 9:30 pm, heading towards First Quarter in Scorpio on Wednesday 8/2.

Monday 7/24 * Moon in Cancer, into Leo 5:25 pm. Cancer Moon is always emotional, but much less so with the Sun now in Leo!New Moons have fresh start energy and in Leo this means new ways of asserting ourselves, expressing, realizing our heart's wishes. For not to follow our heart, as the Odyssey makes clear (column on Leo chapter coming soon), is sure to result in grief.

Tuesday 7/25 * Moon in Leo. Moon moves towards Saturn all day (exact 7:20 pm) and some will sense the seriousness of purpose, the willingness to work, the maturity required of everything that maintains and lasts in life. Yet for others fear impedes self confidence, tiredness weakens vitality, and pain in the heart can be the root of the struggle for meaning.

Wednesday 7/26 * Moon in Leo, Venus trine Jupiter! A fabulous influence on the week - our love, and with Venus in Cancer this means a sweet kind of love that enjoys dinner, nature, family and kids - meets up with Santa Jupiter in Scorpio who says I'll give you all the presents and more, but only if you deal with your bottom line truth! The combo of the two benefics of the sky in Cancer and Scorpio is very fertile and creative.

Thursday 7/27 * Moon in Virgo. Men, perhaps you have noticed a change since the weekend. You have a new action plan at work, you are discriminating, and messes are bugging the heck out of you. Mars entered the productive and purity conscious sign of Virgo last Saturday, and today the Moon joins Mars in this sign (exact 10:50 am). Both men and women, and especially men, will have lots of energy towards improvement of all kinds.

Special announcement for Thursday - If you are interested in the influence of astrology on the arts, literature, music and film; if you want to know something about the upcoming alignment of Saturn and Neptune, the key factor underlying everything else already in play and on into 2007; I give my utmost recommendation to Bill Street's talk tonight at Ft Mason. I got a preview on Saturday so this isn't just spin. If you like or even think you might like astrology, go! Details here.

Friday 7/28 * Moon in Virgo, Mercury direct! With Moon in Virgo we'll want to get something done, but with Mercury at a stop and turning direction at 5:40 pm, we won't be exactly sure how to do it. Do the Virgo tasks you can count on - cleaning the clutter is always good.

Saturday 7/29 * Moon in Virgo, into Libra 5:30 pm. One of the best things about astrology is knowing when to work and when to play. While Moon in Virgo on Friday has us doing something even if we're not sure what, Moon in Libra on a Saturday night is a classic romance eve. There is a twist to love tonight - a new person or scene, a combo of new developments to an older situation.

Sunday 7/30 * Moon in Libra, Venus trine Uranus. It's true that when Venus winks at trickster Uranus, love has some shakin' going on. Note, though, that Uranus is deep in retrograde, so some of the fresh advances typically associated with this planet might have more to do with an older situation or person from your past. One love could be traded for another, maybe a friend suddenly becomes a friend with benefits. Whatever way your weekend shakes, a Sunday for breakfast in bed.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * still in Cancer after being in Leo but direct on 7/28! Expect confusion, hesitation, changes of plan and mind. And if you are waiting to buy technology, give it a few more days for Mercury to speed up. ***Mercury retrograde July 4 to July 28.*** Mercury has extra effect on Wednesdays, Saturday nights and all Mercury hours.

Venus * in Cancer. This is the domestic goddess who knows all the aphrodisiac recipes, secrets of baths, candlelight and just the right music to set the mood. Loyal, maternal and ohh soo feeling. Venus in Cancer through August 12. Venus has special pull on Fridays, Monday nights and all hours of Venus.

Mars * in Virgo. Drive to accomplish, improve, purify, but the methods will be wildly imaginative and unpredictable thanks to opposing Uranus in Pisces. Men in particular will be eating right and extra health conscious. Mars in Virgo through September 7. Mars has more bang on Tuesdays, Friday nights and all hours of Mars.

Jupiter * in Scorpio. Now direct, so we see more outer results of inner work done the past few months. Jupiter in Scorpio blesses therapies, healing modalities, joint finance arrangements and amplifies our sexuality. Jupiter wants to do good, but in Scorpio functions by responding to others with some kind of attack. The energy: This might hurt, but it is for your own good and my own protection! Great regeneration and power is possible if we find the positive side of our deepest emotions. Jupiter here also benefits Aquarius (by antiscion) and sister water signs of Cancer and Pisces. Jupiter in Scorpio through November 2006. Jupiter blesses Thursdays, Sunday nights and all Jupiter hours.

Saturn * in Leo. Developments in some long term structures in life are moving forward, but concrete Saturn moving into an opposition with destabilizing Neptune. This is a major aspect and will set the tone for everything else later this summer and on into 2007. More in a column coming soon. Saturn in Leo through September 2007. Saturn stabilizes Saturdays, Tuesday nights and all Saturn hours.

Dragon's Head * in Pisces. We advance towards peace, arts and spirituality, and partnerships are also a must. Without the sweet embrace of love, substitutes can be not just an occasional indulgence but a routine.

Dragon's Tail * in Virgo. As placements go, this is a bit tough. The Dragon's Tail is like the tai-chi master doing quiet movements but little else. How does this function in the sign of accomplishment through detail & perfection? We let go of ways we are unnecessarily restrictive. Hard work is a virtue, but unless guided by a Pisces wholeness will never bring us true peace.
