Straight to the Moon
Wandering Stars
Dear friends,
This week King Sun moves
towards Emeritus Saturn in the royal sign of Leo, coming together exactly
early on Monday 8/7. While contacts between the life-giving Sun and
planet-of-endings Saturn often give rise to fear and lack of confidence, this is
one of the best weeks to limit ourselves in ways that ultimately serve life. We
do this all the time: just one piece of chocolate cake, thanks; no, we don't
need another bottle of wine, this one was plenty; this job isn't serving me,
time for another. Sun is essential action and in Leo there is a certain amount
of extravagance. But the movement towards Saturn means we more easily sense the
the consequences of our overstretching, and in all actions in general. We set
boundaries and limits that serve a deeper meaning. Saturn reminds every choice counts.
We'll also be pulled towards older things of all
kinds - elders, traditions and things that last. In the name of what endures,
here are a few thoughts on the astrology of place. How do places affect us? Where will we thrive?
What places call to us?
Modern technology has allowed the astrology of
place to become much more sophisticated and more common. Back when it took an
hour to cast a chart, it would have been inconceivable or only for millionaires
to investigate how one's chart changes in other places. Today with computers, it
is a few simple clicks.
The system of astro*carto*graphy draws lines on
the map where planets were at the all important angles at the time of birth. It
is a great tool, but like much of astrology there is the simple version and the
real version. Moving close to a Venus line might be great, but if your Venus is
square a tough Pluto then maybe not.
The first step in the astrology of place is
understanding the birth chart itself. What type of environment will this person
like? Hot, cold, wet or dry? Some people do *not* do deserts. For me in
temperate San Francisco, the fog is like a balm. The 4th house of the birth
chart will show general indications of home throughout life, but this too can
change over time.
After we understand something of the chart, then
we can look to the map. These lines really are something. Many years ago before
knowing anything of astrology, I moved from near NY to SF and have never looked
back. I really love it here! And lo and behold I moved from near a Pluto line
(Northeast USA) to
smack on a Jupiter line (the only Jupiter line in the entire country).
The lines don't just affect our current location
but show something of our connections and opportunities throughout the world.
For example, I have Sun and Mercury MC (career) lines running through Greece,
and without any effort in marketing I have done a number of readings and
services for clients in Athens. The Sun shows recognition and Mercury all kinds
of communication including astrology, so this is a natural fit.
As wonderful as this tool is, it is not the whole
methodology. If we want to know how a place will affect us, we re-locate the
birth chart to that place. If we move to a Sun MC line looking for success in a
career but this puts a tough Saturn in our first house, then we might get a good
job but not feel happy there.
Cities, states and countries also have charts.
While real astrology has not become mainstream enough for every city's chart to
be known, some of these have proven themselves to be correct.
Without these charts and before astro*carto*graphy, traditional astrology
categorized places by sign. In my experience many of these have definitely held
up. The Sun's in look-at-me Leo now, so again I'll use my own chart as an
example. As a Cancer rising, the Moon is the chart ruler and it is in Leo in
the 1st house. I have always been attracted to things from Leo places like France and
Italy and cities like Prague, and this was true before long before knowing
anything of astrology. As a teen I played French horn (a Leo instrument if there
ever was one), authors and artists from Prague were favorites in college, and even though SF
is just a short drive from Napa, one of the premier wine growing areas in the
world, if there is a choice I'll pick wine from France or Italy over Virgo
California nearly all of the time!

Sun * in Leo! With Sun in Leo, we want to be king or queen of the
jungle. If the boss is in the way, go on vacation. True the Sun in Leo
appreciates luxury and playtime, but the heart of Leo is self realization and
authentic experience. For this the real Sun in Leo will forsake the glitter and
go all the way to truth. The Sun also has a special influence on Sundays, Wednesday nights and all Sun
hours. For planetary days and hours at your location (highly recommended!),

Moon * New Moon in Leo Monday 9:30 pm, heading towards First Quarter in Scorpio
on Wednesday 8/2.
Monday 7/31 * Moon in Libra. Did you have a pleasantly unexpected encounter over
the weekend with Venus trine Uranus? Even if you didn't, today we are thinking
and talking about our relationships.
Tuesday 8/1 * Moon in Scorpio. Scorpio Moon is
known for its sex drive and obsessive emotions, but currently ruler Mars
is in Virgo. This emphasizes the penetrating research side of Scorpio - no sign
is better at getting to the bottom of things. First Quarter is technically
tomorrow but so early that we'll sense it more today. Leo is bold enthusiastic
confidence; Scorpio is discrete reactive power. Which way to go, the high road
or the hidden? Are we taking the lead or finding power in reacting to the other's
first move with even greater force?
Wednesday 8/2 * First Quarter Moon in Scorpio, Sun
square Jupiter. Sun-Jupiter is often overstretching, directly opposite to the
limits that Sun-Saturn (described above) is also emphasizing. We are caught in a
bit of a dilemma - we want the ultra Gaggia espresso machine, but our credit
cards are already a bit overloaded. Whether we go towards extravagance (Jupiter)
or limits (Saturn) might depend on the condition of each of these planets in our
chart. Moon trines Venus tonight at 5:30 pm, so men stop working in time and
give your lovers some attention.
Thursday 8/3 * Moon in Scorpio, into Sagittarius
4:15 pm. Sag is known for a breezy uplifting happiness after Scorpio's depths.
But since ruler Jupiter is in Scorpio, these days Sagittarius can feel
more Scorpionic than Moon in Scorpio itself! The positive sides of Jupiter in
Scorpio are assertion of sexuality (have you noticed how many people coming out
of the closet are again making the news with Jupiter direct?), financial
research and positive mergings of all kinds. If you want to sleep well tonight,
exercise hard this evening.
Friday 8/4 * Moon in Sagittarius. How are we
expanding our horizons? With Jupiter in Scorpio, one way is to find positivity in the
depths. This energy is like the teacher who shares hard won wisdom from being there
themselves. Moon trines Sun today and Saturn this evening - this is like
dressing up to dine with parents (or any other esteemed elder) at a fine
restaurant.
Saturday 8/5 * Moon in Sagittarius, into Capricorn
10:20 pm. Fire signs radiate, experience, transform, move and above all,
act. With Sun and Moon both in fire signs yesterday and today, we'll be called
to action yet still keenly aware of consequences of our choices.
Sunday 8/6 * Moon in Capricorn. With Sun meeting
Saturn tomorrow and Moon in Saturn's sign of long term planning, we'll be
focusing on things that last - real estate, family commitments, enough savings
to take care of people we love should hard times hit. And if you have the day to
enjoy, experience old time extravagance at a place with some history.
Have a stellar week!
Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets
Mercury * direct! in Cancer. We are starting to recover from our mental
confusion of last week. Technology soon safe to purchase (I'd wait to 8/4). Our
minds are still emotional, but thanks to Venus in Cancer we are communicating
sweetly in relationships and enjoying long conversations over dinner. Mercury has extra effect
on Wednesdays, Saturday nights
and all Mercury hours.
Venus * in Cancer. This
is the domestic goddess who knows all the aphrodisiac recipes, secrets of baths,
candlelight and just the right music to set the mood. Loyal, maternal and ohh
soo feeling. Venus in Cancer through
August 12. Venus has special pull on Fridays, Monday nights and all hours of
Venus.
Mars * in Virgo. Drive to accomplish, improve,
purify, but the methods will be wildly imaginative and unpredictable thanks to
opposing Uranus in Pisces. Men in particular will be eating right and extra
health conscious. Mars in Virgo through September 7. Mars has more bang
on Tuesdays, Friday nights and all hours of Mars.
Jupiter * in Scorpio. Now direct, so we see more
outer results of inner work done the past few months. Jupiter in Scorpio blesses therapies, healing modalities,
joint finance arrangements and amplifies our sexuality. Jupiter wants to do
good, but in Scorpio functions by responding to others with some kind of attack.
The energy: This might hurt, but it is for your own good and my own protection!
Great regeneration and power is possible if we find the positive side of our
deepest emotions. Jupiter here also benefits Aquarius (by antiscion) and sister
water signs of Cancer and Pisces. Jupiter in Scorpio through November 2006.
Jupiter blesses Thursdays, Sunday nights and all Jupiter hours.
Saturn * in Leo. Developments in some long term structures in
life are moving forward, but concrete Saturn moving into an opposition with
destabilizing Neptune. This is a major aspect and will set the tone for
everything else later this summer and on into 2007. More in a column coming
soon. Saturn in Leo through September 2007. Saturn
stabilizes Saturdays, Tuesday nights and all Saturn hours.
Dragon's Head * in Pisces. We advance towards peace, arts and spirituality, and
partnerships are also a must. Without the sweet embrace of love, substitutes can
be not just an occasional indulgence but a routine.
Dragon's Tail * in Virgo. As placements go, this is a bit tough. The Dragon's
Tail is like the tai-chi master doing quiet movements but little else. How does
this function in the sign of accomplishment through detail & perfection? We let
go of ways we are unnecessarily restrictive. Hard work is a virtue, but unless
guided by a Pisces wholeness will never bring us true peace.
