Straight to the Moon
Wandering Stars
Dear friends,
Last we left Odysseus he was
trapped in the cave of a giant who had just eaten some of his companions. He
comes up with a plan: get the giant drunk, take his club and sharpen it to a
point, then put out his one eye while he is sleeping. Odysseus plies him with
the magnificent wine he has brought (see last column
here). The giant
loves it and demands more and more. After he passes out the men sharpen the club
and then char it in the fire. They plunge the club into the giant's eye who
bellows in pain.
What is this crazy story about? We are in the
Sagittarius chapter. Imagine the night sky with Sagittarius rising. If
Sagittarius is rising, then the sign opposite, Gemini, would be setting. There
is a great constellation right near Gemini that just about everyone knows
because it is often the first star group to recognize - Orion the giant.
Now this can make a bit of sense. If Sagittarius
is rising, the Orion is falling. Homer is calling attention to this. Tales of
falling giants are common in myths throughout the world. One interpretation is
that Orion used to rise just before the Sun at the spring equinox but then faded
from view. In other words, the key sign that spring had arrived started not to
work, and humans around the globe came up with stories just like newspapers
chronicle important changes of our day.
If you think this is far fetched, Homer gives us
another clue. Odysseus and his men are still trapped inside the cave. The giant
isn't dead, just blind. Odysseus comes up with a plan to ride *underneath a ram*
when the giant opens the stone slab that served as a door. Ram equals Aries
equals spring, right? "So we held on, desperate, waiting Dawn's first light."
Then the giant opens the door and Odysseus rides to safety hidden underneath the
ram. Homer is using this chapter to remind everyone that the pre-dawn stars that
once signaled spring have changed. How's that for some Sagittarian philosophy?
After escaping the men race to their boats and set
off. Odysseus taunts the Cyclops who responds by heaving a giant boulder that
just misses the ship. The men row harder, but Odysseus taunts the giant yet
again. The men beg and plead with him to shut up, but Odysseus goes on.
Odysseus, it was Odysseus who put out your eye! At that the giant prays to his
father Poseidon to cause trouble for Odysseus, and the rest we know - more
suffering for our hero and crew later on.
Do any of you know a person with Sun in
Sagittarius, or Sag strong in their chart? If so you know they can talk. Even
when you think it isn't possible for them to go on, they can. And here at the
close of the Sagittarius chapter, Odysseus cannot keep his mouth shut to save
his life. The next time a Sag person talks and talks, think of this story and
smile!

Star*Watch - More info here.
Sun * in Sagittarius. We act to expand horizons, experience what is
further out and go beyond all limits. Most of this is
good but easy to overdo.
Moon * First Quarter Moon in Pisces on Monday 11/27.
Monday 11/27 * Moon in Aquarius, into Pisces 12:20 pm. Emotionally we feel the
possibilities, but our confidence in action is low or at best frustrated. The
Sag ~ Pisces dilemma is the choice between outer and inner satisfaction, for
example the fancy restaurant or the yoga class. With Jupiter and Venus both in
Sag, the obvious answer is both!
Tuesday 11/28 * Moon in Pisces, Mercury square
Neptune, Mars square Saturn. A toughie - men feel tested or stressed, and women
will notice what is happening with the men in their lives. All of us more easily
feel the darkness and violence in the world, and are confused about our ideals
to boot. Find a new way to Sagittarian faith.
Wednesday 11/29 * Moon in Pisces, into Aries 3:30
pm. With Jupiter in happy Sag, Pisces Moon times can be truly inspirational.
Wednesday will be a relief after Tuesday, so allow some quality downtime before
3:30 to percolate your burst of action that launches with Aries in the
afternoon.
Thursday 11/30 * Moon in Aries. We go for what we
want with a vengeance! Shoppers be warned. With Moon aspecting Neptune and Venus
in the eve, a night for holiday enjoyments.
Friday 12/1 * Moon in Aries, into Taurus 5:25 pm.
Moon in Taurus will send us into pleasure mode, and the more variety the better.
Sun on royal star Antares (literally 'rival of Mars) means physical vigor,
competition and creative destruction (all on the good side) but also hostility
(on the bad).
Saturday 12/2 * Moon in Taurus, Sun square Uranus.
Flexibility is the codeword for Uranus. Moon in Taurus will want material
stability, but the sudden trip to Spain (or your own equivalent) may beckon.
Sunday 12/3 * Moon in Taurus, into Gemini 7:05 pm.
Though the Taurus Moon will still give us some pleasure, the tone of the weekend
is influenced by Mercury's square to Saturn exact tomorrow and Saturn station on
Tuesday. The mind senses deep struggle. We notice everything Saturnian in our
lives: effort & difficulty but also what lasts, older people and things,
architecture, history and tradition.
Have a stellar week!
Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets
Mercury * in Scorpio. Now direct! Mercury in Scorpio is a deeply
penetrating mind. Whatever truth needs uncovering, whatever force of intellect
we need to power through, Mercury in Scorpio can do it. Mercury in Scorpio is
also very good for talk therapy. If some of you were waiting for Mercury direct
for tech purchases, I recommend holding out until Friday 12/8.
Venus * in Sagittarius. Venus in Sag likes ...
what's over there. This, that, that one too! On the more positive side, a love
of exploration, learning and whatever expands boundaries and horizons.
This can come through travel, teachers and wide-ranging experience. The trap of
Venus in Sag - too much debt, too many loves. Venus in Sag from
November 17 to December 10.
Mars * in Scorpio. Why is Mars the
ruler of Scorpio? Because to get to the bottom of things, to deal with deepest
emotions, to face the whole of life, all of these take courage. When you need
guts warrior Mars is who you want to show up. Mars in Scorpio on the better side
gives tremendous potency and staying power to all the Scorpio drives; yet on a
bad day can mean entrenched battles in relationships, love obsessions that take
over life, and being unyielding in our interactions which can easily cause
trouble. Mars in Scorpio from October 23 to December 5.
Jupiter * in Scorpio, entering Sagittarius. Big change! Jupiter is where we have
opportunities and expansion. In Jupiter's home sign of Sag, improvements and
abundance come easy. Jupiter in Sagittarius through December 2007.
Saturn * in Leo. Developments in some long term structures in
life are moving forward, but concrete Saturn moving into an opposition with
destabilizing Neptune. This is a major aspect and will set the tone for
everything else later this summer and on into 2007. Saturn in Leo through September 2007.
Dragon's Head * in Pisces. We advance towards peace, arts and spirituality, and
partnerships are also a must. Without the sweet embrace of love, substitutes can
be not just an occasional indulgence but a routine.
Dragon's Tail * in Virgo. As placements go, this is a bit tough. The Dragon's
Tail is like the tai-chi master doing quiet movements but little else. How does
this function in the sign of accomplishment through detail & perfection? We let
go of ways we are unnecessarily restrictive. Hard work is a virtue, but unless
guided by a Pisces wholeness will never bring us true peace.
