Aquarius heartache
Star*Watch

Wandering Stars

Dear friends,

Quick note for the eternal optimists - if you want to skip the heartache or at least save it for later, just go to Star*Watch for the steamy Venus Mars action this week!

Now on to part II of the Aquarius chapter. After Odysseus gets his answer on how to make it home from the prophet in the Aquarius chapter (read part I here) he talks to his mother. She tells him that she died not from an illness or enemy, but from grief for her lost son. Homer has already pointed to grief and heartache in the very first few lines of the chapter: "Then we ourselves embarked, streaming tears, our hearts weighed down with anguish."

If Leo is the sign of the glory of the heart, might Aquarius as the sign opposite be related to the pain of the heart? Another interesting tidbit for those who don't mind a bit of gore: the ghosts of the dead can only talk to Odysseus after they've drunk the blood of the sacrifice he made earlier. See the connection? There may be something to the Aquarian experience that distresses the heart.

After talking to his mother and getting news about his wife and son, Odysseus talks to several other women famous from Greek myths. These stories make up the bulk of the chapter. True to Aquarian style, Homer takes the spotlight off Odysseus and puts it on a collection of others!

Odysseus has enthralled his audience with his story (he is telling all this as a tale to the Phaeacians at a banquet) but it is getting late. After a brief pause in the action they urge him on, saying they are happy to stay up until daylight to hear more. The Aquarians I know are night owls - how about you? Then Odysseus starts in with tales of the ghosts of men.

Another interesting point: in the Aquarius chapter, Homer has clearly separated the women from the men. Homer might even be hinting at a gay sexuality here. After all the prophet Tiresias is one of the only mortals who had spent time both as a woman and as a man, and he knew the pleasures of both.

As Odysseus continues he describes three images of endless torment: Tityus' liver is constantly being pecked out by vultures; Tantalus is parched and famished but drink and food vanish as soon as he reaches for them; and Sisyphus endlessly heaves a boulder uphill.

Homer started the chapter by telling us that the deepest wisdom comes in Aquarius, but if we aren't careful or do not listen, there is also the possibility of repeating suffering.

In my view as a practicing astrologer, this is correct. Aquarius is a very wise sign, but at the same time can get trapped in cycles of difficulty that just do not relent. No offense to all the Sun sign Aquarians out there! This applies to all of us whenever planets move through the sign of Aquarius, just like the Sun has been the past few weeks and the Moon will do in a few days.

If we are trapped in a wheel of suffering and always seeming to be rolling a boulder uphill, does Homer give us a hint on the way out? The prophet Tiresias instructed Odysseus: "One rule there is, and simple for me to say and you to learn. Any one of the ghosts you let approach the blood will speak the truth to you." This means when the ghosts drink the blood they were able to speak. How do we redden our own blood every moment of every day?

Breathe, breathe deep and lift the burden from the heart.

Star*Watch - More info here.

Sun * in Aquarius, into Pisces Sunday eve. We are seeking the answers in Aquarius. Aquarius is an intellectual sign and thrives on community connections; but like Capricorn it too is willing to work. On Monday and Tuesday we are accomplishing through our relationships and enjoying their pleasures as well; then Wednesday through the Sun's entry into Pisces on Sunday we are focused on long-sought wisdom.

Moon * New Moon in Aquarius on Saturday. Though Sun moves into Pisces the very next day, this represents beginnings in community and knowledge.

Monday 2/12 * Moon in Sagittarius. Last time lady Venus and hero Mars met in the sky was a conjunction by antiscion (an old Greek technique) near Christmas 06. On Tuesday afternoon they meet again, and star-lovers celebrate whenever Venus and Mars get together. Get a head start on your Valentine tonight!

Tuesday 2/13 * Moon in Capricorn, Venus sextile Mars, Mercury Rx. As aspects between the cosmic lovers this is a good one. Venus is exalted in Pisces (we love more easily), and Mars is exalted in Capricorn (our energy is directed towards productive ends). Today Venus lures Mars with her pleasures while the confidence of Mars turns on Venus. Moon in Capricorn will keep us focused on work during the day.

Wednesday 2/14 * Moon in Capricorn. Though Tuesday is the astrologers V-day, the Moon lights up the pair in the eve. Just be clear on the communications today and the next few weeks as Mercury Rx in Pisces may not deliver on time.

Thursday 2/15 * Moon in Aquarius. Have you noticed more cravings recently? Some of these can even be beneficial if we wisely pick the best of the lot.

Friday 2/16 * Moon in Aquarius. What wisdom or community have you found in the past few weeks? If trapped in a cycle of difficulty instead, breathe and let go.

Saturday 2/17 * New Moon in Aquarius. The fresh energy of New Moon is always welcome, but the most important event is that near 6:30 PST Venus arrives at her most favorite degree, yes degree, in the entire zodiac. This means that all of us (and especially the Venus types) can be at our most accepting, forgiving, beautiful, loving selves.

Sunday 2/18 * Moon in Aquarius, Sun into Pisces. This morning Venus is still at her maximum exaltation. Um, that's a technical term ;) But she moves on mid-afternoon, so if there were a day to 'feel the love' this is it. Sun into Pisces means we let go of struggle and make connections in a more deeply feeling world.

Have a stellar week!

Peace and love,
Jonathan Pearl

Wandering Stars - the planets

Mercury * Turning Rx in Pisces. Rx alert February 12 to March 7. Mercury in Pisces is brilliantly creative but details and communication may be too diffuse to accomplish much for the next 3 weeks. And about tech stuff, forget it.

Venus * in Pisces. Venus in Pisces is the very best of love - we accept it all, we forgive, we let go, we love even more than we thought we could and there a beautiful life loving us right back. Venus in Pisces through February 21.

Mars * in Capricorn. Mars in the sign of the mountain climber means men work even harder than usual, and everyone has a strong drive to accomplish. Mars in Capricorn through February 25 2007.

Jupiter * in Sagittarius. Jupiter is opportunities and expansion and in his home sign of Sag, improvements and abundance come easy. Jupiter in Sagittarius through December 2007.

Saturn * Retrograde in Leo. Concrete Saturn is moving into the 2nd pass of an opposition with destabilizing Neptune. All long term structures are not as solid as they seem.  Saturn in Leo through September 2007.

Dragon's Head * in Pisces. We advance towards peace, arts and spirituality, and partnerships are also a must. Without the sweet embrace of love, substitutes can be not just an occasional indulgence but a routine.

Dragon's Tail * in Virgo. As placements go, this is a bit tough. The Dragon's Tail is like the tai-chi master doing quiet movements but little else. How does this function in the sign of accomplishment through detail & perfection? We let go of ways we are unnecessarily restrictive. Hard work is a virtue, but unless guided by a Pisces wholeness will never bring us true peace.
